Grace Galinski
Grace Galinski asked Kevin Sands:

I just finished reading The Blackthorn Key, and I wanted to ask a very basic question since I'm actually curious about the answer. What made you want to write a historical fiction book? And how'd you come up with the idea for this book/series?

Kevin Sands It occurred to me that apothecaries were pretty cool: they used potions, and poisons, and secret codes, and that seemed like a rich idea for a story. When I had that idea, however, I didn't know if it was going to be historical; I was thinking I might set it in a fantasy world. But when I started doing research into real apothecaries, I decided I liked the real world of Restoration London, so I set it during that era.
