Sounds like a great story has anybody read it?

Susan I just finished this and liked it well enough. I did think that "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" was much better, however. You might want to start with that one? (That's what I did--which meant that I was a little underwhelmed by this one). This book had some beautifully-written prose that could almost make you cry. However, the plot often meandered (which may be the author's point--migrants are often caught in multiple cities and stuck there in circumstances beyond their control).
Marc Nash Just read, it's definitely worth a read but does seem to run out of steam and go nowhere in the last third, but perhaps that's a point about migration itself.
Jennifer Maloney I thought it was boring. The beginning set up an interesting concept but it never really went anywhere.
T-Roy I just finished it today - well, I pushed myself to read it until about page 203 and just skipped to the last chapter because I couldn't take it anymore. I did not like it. It is not what I expected which was how refugees deal with their city being overtaken. I wanted to connect with this idea, unbeknownst to me when I ordered this book, it is also in the Fantasy genre. So when Saeed and Nadia want to leave their current location, they enter a door and bam - new location. What I do recommend reading is Pachinko.
Susan Ehh, there were moments of beautiful prose, but for the most part...I would recommend reading something else

StefanieFrei I loved it! And I do hate Fantasy - but this is more like magical realism or a Parabel.
This is not a "straight forward read" - but rather one to put down time and again and consider what is underneath in terms of dual meaning.

I guess this is where readers love it or hate it, not much in between. I recommend you look for a sample and try that - the style of writing, too, is particular (lenghty sentences; but some had not even noticed that until mentioned).
Jenna Greenlee I just read it! I went into it expecting one thing, and I got so much more. It is a really beautiful story. It is also a really quick read. I'd recommend it! On the other hand, I received it through Book of the Month Club and it seems to have been polarizing. Many readers reported feeling underwhelmed and disappointed by the end. I'd disagree, but everyone's taste is different. So, I guess I probably haven't helped at all, have I? :)
Andy This is the third book of his that I've read and I liked it the best, although "How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia" is also very good.
Carol E. I loved it! The writing is fabulous!
Sylvia I thought it was incredibly dull. The premise is a good one, but the stripped down prose and fuzzy characters left me feeling, “ meh”.
Quinn I really liked it. It's full of stuff to make you think and all, and at the same time not trying to lecture you. Of course it's realistic and not sort of like "oh saved the world happily ever after". It's - yeah, real is the way to describe it.
Nancy Premise is amazing, lots of material to think about, but I really disliked it as a book :/ I'd still recommend giving it a try, it's a really short book.
Greg Peggy, I just finished it. I'm trying to write a review, but just can't get a handle on what, exactly, the author was up to. Yes, it is a very interesting story but I need time to process it.
