How did you go about your research process for writing Lilac Girls?
Martha Hall Kelly
I stumbled on the story of how Caroline Ferriday brought the Polish Catholic survivors of Ravensbruck known as "The Rabbits" to the US for treatment when I visited her house, now a museum, up in Bethlehem, CT. I researched the story for many years before finally writing it, both in Caroline's three archives and in Poland and Germany at Ravensbruck.

I loved, loved Sunflower Sisters! I was sorry when it ended. I have loved your other two books also but I think Sunflower Sisters is my favorite. I also enjoy your information on the research that you have done. Is the Caroline Ferriday house a museum? Can't wait to see what you write next.

My church book club will be reading Lilac Girls this year. I loved the extra information (lost pictures of Caroline Ferriday, etc.). I can't wait to share those with the group. Do you have any additional information I could share about that book? I have recommended the book to everyone who asks me what I read or what one of my favorite books is. I've just finished Lost Roses and loved it. Couldn't help but think of Dr. Zhivago. I'm curious about what motivates Caroline and Eliza to be so generous and helpful. There isn't a lot about their education and/or religion in the first two books. Wealth is frequently mentioned in Lost Roses. No husband/father to prevent travels to dangerous places? Upholding the family name/reputation? LI neighbors were different
