Trin Carl asked Rasmenia Massoud:

What was the first book you read?

Rasmenia Massoud Hmm... I'm afraid I can't remember quite that far back. It's likely that it was something with a golden spine about puppies. Or Dr Seuss. Or a Little Engine That Could. Since that answer is dull and vague, I'll tell you the first book I read that really knocked me out. It was 'Island of the Blue Dolphins' by Scott O'Dell. It's a children's novel about a girl stranded alone on a desert island who learns to fend for herself for several years. Being a very small and lonely girl myself, it floored me to imagine someone like me could be strong, brave, and self-sufficient. I learned strange new words like 'abalone' and 'cormorant'. It was the first book I read that left a strong imprint in my brain. That imprint remains there to this day, and the battered paperback still remains on my shelf.
