Goodreads asked Scott Reintgen:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Scott Reintgen I think this depends on the writer. For most writers, the answer is to skip around to other projects that have caught their eye. I suggest this (and do this), but only AFTER you've proven to yourself you can finish projects. If writer's block is really "that point halfway through the novel where you find yourself sledding uphill" than learning how to push through those periods is crucial for the writer.

I also believe strongly in the "Small Assignments" advice from Anne Lamott. Often we face writer's block because we're overwhelmed, "How will I pull off this chapter? How do I connect this to the ending I have planned?" So we never get into rhythm of any kind... It's sometimes better to just give yourself a small assignment. "I'm just going to describe the MC's shoes" or "I'm going to write the first moment he sees the ocean." Just a paragraph at a time. I do small assignments until my rhythm catches and I can build into something more.
