Goodreads asked Scott Reintgen:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Scott Reintgen Keep going, keep going, keep going. As a teacher, I always had writers in as guest speakers. Their advice almost always echoed this. Just write.

Writing is not all that different from other professions in terms of acquiring mastery. There is SOME inherent skill. Some people do have clever brains full of clever ideas. Others have a knack for the written word... but overall, the mastery is gained through continual and painstaking practice. You keep writing. You form those mental muscles. You learn, by endless trial and error, what is good and what is not. You rinse, you repeat. That's the way of everything. You learn to shoot free throws the same way: by standing at the line and shooting them, over and over. Writing's no different.
