'Journey to Munich' seems quite prescient. Can you say a little about how relevant your book is given today's global swing to the right?
Jacqueline Winspear
Thank you for your question, Suz. I think any notion of relevance is really in the reader's court. Many have made this comment, but others might not agree. Suffice it to say, when I reflect upon the very deep research I did for this novel, including walking around Munich until I thought my feet would drop off, it has been enough to worry me. The curtailment of the press in 1930's Germany, along with the divisive rhetoric of the time come to mind. I should add that JOURNEY TO MUNICH was planned and written before any swing to the right was evident. In the same way, IN THIS GRAVE HOUR, which concerns refugees, was planned before the refugee crisis became a matter of international concern.

One last comment - I'm looking forward to seeing you next week at Murder By The Book in Houston; I'm going to get in line last as I have TONS of questions. It is always a special treat when you come for a lecture/ q&a at your book launch. Thank you so much for being so available to your fans - do you love it as much as we do?

We are so excited that a New Maisie Dobbs adventure is on our way. My question is: A few years ago you said something to the effect that you didn't want the image of Maisie to be one specific person so you were not interested in selling the movie rights. Is that something you have reconsidered, or still no to selling the movie rights?

First I wanted to tell you that I love Maisie Dobbs so much, I named my new puppy after her! Through reading the whole series, one thing I have wondered about is your perspective on women "having it all". Is it possible for women to be brilliant and ahead-of-her-time career-women, while also having personal happiness and fufillment? It seems to be that Maisie is doomed to only have one. Please tell me there is hope!
