I read your book because our librarian had an idea to go on a blind date with a book so I took yours home and read it and liked it how did you come across Maiise Dobbs .she is a great character did you know a pi like her?

Jacqueline Winspear Thanks for your question, Sandi. I don't know anyone specifically like Maisie Dobbs, however, she is inspired by the WW1 generation of women in Britain, who were the first generation of women to go to war in modern times. They were independent, spirited, generous, brave, resilient and they knew what it was to endure.

What are your sources for the details of the period you write about? Do you interview people who lived in England and Europe during the wars? I appreciate your personalizing the war with strong characters who represent what people endured during that period.

I loved the fact that Maisie was able to attend school at a time when it was an almost unobtainable goal for women. I felt I was really lacking details from that period. Did she ever guest lecture or go back for a reunion?

Have you thought about writing a story about the altar frontal created by 133 WW1 soldiers while they were recovering from their battle wounds? It's going on display for the first time in 70 years on August 3rd at St. Paul's in London. It's an embroidered piece. Embroidery was chosen as therapy for the soldiers.
