However, the stories are connected somehow, usually through one character. In this case, the stories are connected by Lucy Barton. In Olive Kitteredge, they were connected by Olive. It's not essential that you read Lucy Barton first, but I think you'd get more out of Anything is Possible if you did. I'd like to go back now and read both of them to clarify all the connections in my mind. Again, that would not be essential, but these characters are very compelling!(less)
