I have a feeling this is going to be a close one!!

message 2: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska I have a similar thoughts, but this time I'm going to stick to my vote hoping that it wins LOL

message 3: by Jo (new)

Jo Just voted for the Rosi Project, but see it will not be published until Oct. 1!

message 4: by Donna (new)

Donna Wow, Jo, you're absolutely right -- The Rosie Project won't be out until October, and therefore cannot be an August choice. :( I'll have to keep it on my TBR list for this Fall. Well, lots of other good ones to pick from though! Hard choice!

message 5: by Kristie (new)

Kristie Mod
The Rosie Project was actually published in April. That is a different edition that's coming out in October. Just noticed there is an edition that came out in January too.

message 6: by Cathie (new)

Cathie Kristie's right; the US S&S publisher edition doesn't come out until Oct buy it's been around for a while now. Our Canadian edition (Harper Collins) came out in May. As the book continues to grow in popularity more and more publishers are picking it up and adding it to their own catalogues.

It originally started out as a independent publication and then word of mouth helped it to grow in popularity rapidly. I believe the author (Australian) actually wrote it last year. His story is like the male version of J.K. Rowlings. He worked at another career until age 50 then decided to quit and pursue his love of writing and this is his first novel at age 52.

message 7: by Donna (new)

Donna Yes, but... The book will not be released in the U.S. until October 1st, though. The previous editions you mention are not available for purchase by those of us who live in the U.S. (See the Facebook page for The Rosie Project).

message 8: by Cathie (new)

Cathie Ahhh, I didn't realize that you couldn't get any copy of The Rosie Project in the U.S. ... not even on Kindle or as an ebook? (shudder that I said that because I am NOT an ebook person)

message 9: by Kristie (new)

Kristie Mod
Wow! Sorry Donna! You're right. I saw it on Amazon for sale and Kindle, so I thought it was available, but underneath it says "this title is not yet available" and the button says "preorder". I didn't look closely enough. Bummer! I'll keep it on my TBR list too.

Cathie - That's interesting info about the author!

message 10: by Cathie (new)

Cathie Wow, that's a switch; usually the U.S., especially Amazon and Kindle have releases way before us.

It's a great book; I've read it...nah, nah, nah, nah, smirk. Sorry, by inner brat came out to play :-)

Seriously, you are in for a treat when you can finally get it.

message 11: by Felina (new)

Felina I'm excited about the new Gaiman book!

message 12: by Donna (new)

Donna LOL Cathie! Looking forward to reading it : O

Me too Felina. I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan.

message 14: by Kristie (new)

Kristie Mod
I've never actually read a Neil Gaiman book. However, this one is on my TBR list now. I guess it'll be my first!

message 15: by Amy (new)

Amy I have a random question.....I have just added Hounded - The Iron Druid Chronicles to my TBR shelf. But there are books that are seemingly half books (eg 5.5) but I have no idea which order they are read in! Any ideas? I know I'm kind of jumping ahead since I haven't even read book 1! lol

message 16: by Cathie (new)

Cathie I usually go by publication year Amy, that way I read them in the order the author thought about the story and wrote it.

Half books usually are extra fillers that tell a bit more about the story.

I always try to read then in order -> 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, etc. I think they give them half numbers where they fit into the story. Although, as Cathie said, they are usually back stories or just give a little more info, so they can be read later.

message 20: by Felina (new)

Felina Sometimes the .5 are stories from a particular 'world' that the author wrote for a short story anthology. I know Charlaine Harris has several for the Sookie Stackhouse books. It seems to crop up frequently in Urban Fantasy. I know with King's Dark Tower series The Wind Through the Keyhole was the most recent book published but falls as 4.5 in a series of seven books. Though I'd still recommend reading it last. :)

Thank you....I am putting them in order now on the iPad so I don't forget when it comes time to move onto the next one!

message 22: by Kristie (new)

Kristie Mod
So, I officially own two of these books and have put holds on two more at the library. My TBR list grows every month with these polls!

message 23: by Richard (new)

Richard Neil Gaiman

message 24: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska I love Neil Gaiman's books and I'm really excited that we may have chance to read his new release together :)

message 25: by JǘṢţ (new)

JǘṢţ ṢṀilẽ Rosi Project , will be a good book to get out of what around us

message 26: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Mod
Whoops, sorry guys ..... I just assumed that The Rosie Project was available everywhere rather than checking. My bad.

message 27: by Kristie (new)

Kristie Mod
Maybe we can recommend that one again later in the year, when it is more available?

message 28: by Norelle (new)

Norelle The ocean at the end of the lane.

message 29: by Amy (new)

Amy When do we find out the winner? I voted for sea of tranquility but saw it was way behind so I have just finished reading it! I don't want to start the ocean at the end of the lane too early.

message 30: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Mod
The poll closes on Sunday Amy. However as a group we'll be reading it in August so you may want to start it early anyway if you can't wait that long!

message 31: by Savanes (new)

Savanes @Amy: Unless all the remaining members decide to vote for another book, I think The Ocean at the End of the Lane will be our winner this month.

@Florence: It happens when two books receive the same number of votes or if there is only one winner award read that we are planning to read that month. We generally read 4 books during the month: 2 winners, 1 winning series (just one book of the series of course) and 1 additional read.

message 32: by Cathie (new)

Cathie August, though will be one of those rare months that have 5 monthly books though, 2 Award Winners, 2 from different series and the Additional read.

message 33: by Robyn (new)

Robyn Letourneau I like the sound of the Neil Gaiman's The ocean at the end of the lane

message 34: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Fellure My vote is for, The Sea of Tranquility!

message 35: by LB (new)

LB Still June 30, but I guess i missed voting!

Lyn, thank you! I read Sea of Tranquility last week & am itching to get started on Neil Gaiman's. Being back at work means I probably won't finish it until the end of August anyway lol
