Ah, shucks. I wish I checked in here earlier so I could make the case for Robin Alexander's Lure of White Oak Lake. It is a LOL book with wonderful characters. And I rarely LOL while reading books. It's been a long time since I read "Worth Every Step"... I look forward to re-reading it.
Luce - you can set up a buddy read and I know others will jump in.
