Nikki Although, I do still want to read Greetings from Jamaica. If that doesn't win, I am putting up a buddy read, dammit!

message 2: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight You should it was pretty funny. Something so grand was also good. If your looking a good laugh Greetings from Jamaica is good for it.

message 3: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight I pick the Stoner McTavish one because already have it.

message 4: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Michelle wrote: "You should it was pretty funny. Something so grand was also good. If your looking a good laugh Greetings from Jamaica is good for it."

That's what I hear. I'm gonna read that one regardless

message 5: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I picked Something So Grand, because I really like Mending Defects and definitely want to see what else Lynn Galli has in store in this next one. I'm hoping for some lovely sarcastic wit!

message 6: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight I'll read it with ya.

message 7: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Me, too!

message 8: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Score!

SpritetheRight My kids teacher called to tell me 13 year old was sarcastic. I couldn't control the my response. "Huh, I have never noticed her being sarcastic."

Nikki Michelle wrote: "My kids teacher called to tell my 13 year old was sarcastic. I couldn't control the my response. "Huh, I have never noticed her being sarcastic.""

Oh I'm sorry, was I not supposed to be teaching her that?

message 11: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Can't imagine where she gets that...

message 12: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight I know it has to be Tv.

message 13: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Probably science's fault too.

message 14: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight I told her if she is being sarcastic at least she a pay attention. Give extra work to do.

message 15: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight Those damn genes will get you everytime.

message 16: by nancyjean (new)

nancyjean I know I will eventually read The Pyramid Waltz, but it's not yet on amazon for the kindle, boo.

Love Lynn Galli. Think we could lure her into doing a Q&A if we tell her she can be her naturally bitchy self?

message 17: by Alena (new)

Alena Lynn Galli! Please, no more drama in November. I'll be reading love, love, happy love. AND happy endings!

Lynn Galli in the Q&A would be awesome.

message 18: by Alena (new)

Alena Who suggested "But She Is My Student"? Is it as forbidden as it sounds?

message 19: by Cari (new)

Cari Hunter Can we have the usual question: Why did you nominate your book, please? :-)

I put Stoner McTavish forward this month because it was probably the first lesfic I ever read! It's funny and sweet, and has a lovely central pairing. I've not reread it for quite a while so it'd be a nice excuse to dust our copy off. Recommended even if it doesn't win the vote.

message 20: by f (new)

f Aw, I still love Stoner McTavish too. I might vote for that.

I read The Pyramid Waltz last month. Endearingly silly, reasonably entertaining - I would've liked it more if it had an ending of some sort instead of turning out to be Part 1 of a series. It's so annoying when books do that without warning.

message 21: by Cheri (new)

Cheri I put up The Pyramid Waltz because Andy and I thought it looked good. Well, we thought the cover looked good and hoped the book would be nearly as good. I'm sort of pissed that it's just a set up to the series.

I'm still pissed about Nightshade which had NO CLOSURE for ANYTHING and the sequel will probably never come out. And, honestly, even if it does, I probably wouldn't buy it now.

I don't think publishers should allow that shit. Unless the sequel is already completed with a scheduled release date. Rat Bastards.

message 22: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Does anyone know Lynn Galli? If not, I'll reach out to her about doing a Q&A.

Cheyenne Cheri wrote: "I put up The Pyramid Waltz because Andy and I thought it looked good. Well, we thought the cover looked good and hoped the book would be nearly as good. I'm sort of pissed that it's just a set up t..."

I feel the same way about trilogies. If you know going in it will be a trilogy it is fine, but to find out when the second book is out is annoying.

message 24: by Cheri (new)

Cheri I don't see what the problem would be to state something like "the first in a series."

message 25: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne Cheri wrote: "I don't see what the problem would be to state something like "the first in a series.""

Right!

message 26: by Kelli (new)

Kelli Baeli what's botM? and I also am not familiar with any of these choices. Can i suggest one?

message 27: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight Book of the month = botM. This where vote on which one we want to read. For some reason it usually more than one because we are greedy bastard. Right Cheri?

message 28: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Hi Kelli. Yes, Michelle, we are horribly greedy and can't agree on just one sometimes.

Toward the end of each month, I send out an email asking for suggestions and then a few days later I put up a poll like this one. It's too late to make a suggestion for November's selection for the BotM but if you and at least one other person want to read a book and discuss it, feel free to set up a listing under the Buddy Reads section.

If there's a Buddy Read that's already posted that you're interested in, no matter how old it is, jump on in and post. I guarantee at least one other member will join in with you.

nancyjean Cheri wrote: "Does anyone know Lynn Galli? If not, I'll reach out to her about doing a Q&A."

I know Lynn Galli in a fan-who-emails-her way. She does reply :)

It is going to be tough to get her, I think. She is very private. I am happy to ask her, however, if her novel is BotM and you want me to, Cheri.

message 30: by Cari (new)

Cari Hunter BSB have updated their forthcoming schedule. Looks like a sequel to The Pyramid Waltz is set for a May, 2013 release (titled: For Want of a Friend.)

I.would love for her her to chat with us.

f Cheri wrote: "I don't see what the problem would be to state something like "the first in a series.""

Yeah, just say so on the back cover. Maybe authors or publishers think it puts people off? (To be fair, it does put me off. I don't mind a book having sequels but it's better if the "Book One" can stand on its own merits, too.)

message 33: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Cari wrote: "BSB have updated their forthcoming schedule. Looks like a sequel to The Pyramid Waltz is set for a May, 2013 release (titled: For Want of a Friend.)"

Ok, that makes me feel better. Ferox - it's worth a read with the sequel scheduled?

message 34: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Or is it better to wait until the sequel is out or nearly out?

message 35: by Cheri (new)

Cheri nancyjean wrote: "It is going to be tough to get her, I think. She is very private. I am happy to ask her, however, if her novel is BotM and you want me to, Cheri."

I think enough of us have enjoyed her work that there'll be a buddy read for her new one if it's not picked. I'm certain there would be plenty of questions and comments for her no matter which gets selected.

If you would ask, I know there would be some pretty happy folks. Right Jenny? ;-)

message 36: by f (new)

f Cheri wrote: Ferox - it's worth a read with the sequel scheduled?..."

If you like medieval-ish fantasy romance with princesses and magic and monsters and whatnot, yeah. Upsides: it's sweet and good-humoured and quite funny, and I liked the unfortunately-named Starbride - she's a surprisingly nuanced character, as love-interests go. Downsides: it gradually descends into a very silly monster-bashing denouement that didn't leave me agog for part 2. And part 1 spends most of its time setting up mysteries and plot strands that won't get resolved unless you do read part 2.

Oh yeah Cheri. I hope she wants to. I think she would be awesome and crack us up.

message 38: by nancyjean (new)

nancyjean Whoa. The Raid is moving up.

message 39: by Alena (new)

Alena Wow, again TWO books? We're an efficient group!

message 40: by f (new)

f Huh, Lee Lynch has twenty gazillion literary awards in her bio. Why haven't I heard of her? I'm going to vote for her book.

message 41: by Cari (new)

Cari Hunter Plus, we own it already so that's convenient! Maybe if it's a tie folks should choose between the top choices - seems people struggle to get through (or hold of) two per month.

message 42: by SpritetheRight (new)

SpritetheRight I thought most us read more than two books a month on average.

message 43: by f (new)

f Cari wrote: "Plus, we own it already so that's convenient!"

Do we? So we do! I've not read it though, have you?

Most of us read more than two books a month, yeah, but we don't necessarily want to read two Book-of-the-Month type books every month, if that makes sense. Not that we have to read both to go to the hangout.

message 44: by Alena (new)

Alena Ferox wrote: "Huh, Lee Lynch has twenty gazillion literary awards in her bio. Why haven't I heard of her? I'm going to vote for her book."

Check out the BSB blogsite to read her Amazon Trails. Some of them are quite funny. That's all I've read of hers so far and I always enjoyed them.

message 45: by Cheri (new)

Cheri She's a legend. I haven't read any of her books but was happy to pick up The Swashbuckler at GCLS and even happier to meet her and ask her to sign it for me.

I'm keeping my vote where it is but am totally cool with a tie again this month.

Ferox is right about the hangouts. It's much more about the company. And there's nothing wrong with sitting in on a conversation about a book you didn't read. As long as you don't plan to or don't mind spoilers. Come discuss what you did read and then just chat.

message 46: by Cari (new)

Cari Hunter True enough. Or just come along to shove obscene amounts of dry goods into your mouth...cos that's fun too ;-)

message 47: by Jenny (new)

Jenny That may have been as good as the hangout.

message 48: by Jenny (new)

Jenny Although I didn't read aimee and jaguar and I didn't finish reading the hauntingof hill house but
I plan on buying the movie from walmart. Its only 13 bucks
