J. Ellyne I love to read eBooks on my Nook. The only time I read print books now is when a good book is not available as and eBook. The best thing about a tablet is being able to take lots and lots of books with you in a very portable way. And you can put headphones on and listen to Pandora while you read. It doesn't get any better.

message 202: by Deborah (new)

Deborah I read on my IPAD2 because of the apps, Nook, Kindle(have one of those too), iBooks google play books and now Kobo...... Love it so much and I also read real books.

message 203: by Lesley (new)

Lesley I love my Kindle

message 204: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie I have the Nook, but I have yet to purchase a book for it. I use it to download books from the Phoenix Digital Library. It's so marvelous for trips that way! I do also have some games, but I don't tend to surf the web on it.

message 205: by Mary (new)

Mary I have an early Nook. I prefer reading on the Nook to regular books, but I still do both. I have an iPad too, but I don't read books on it. The iPad is for web surfing, social media, games, etc.

message 206: by James (new)

James Hall I have an Android tablet and Phone; when I'm at home I read books on the tablet, when I can carry on reading the same book at work from where I left off on my phone, without having to cart the book itself around with me. I never liked the idea of kindle / ebooks until a book I wanted to read was only available as an ebook and I tried it. And now... I really like it.

message 207: by Ann (new)

Ann I read a lot of books on my Nook Color. I still also read traditional paper copies of books and a Nook will never completely replace the feel of a good book in my hands, but as I have had a lot of problems with my eyes in the past two years (including eye surgery), the Nook is fantastic. The lighting helps ease eye strain and lets me read more for longer.

message 208: by K (new)

K I don't have a tablet but I don't want one for reading. I like books and how you can always flip back to your favortie parts easily.

message 209: by Penny Lane (new)

Penny Lane My nook tablet goes with me everywhere I go! I only use it for reading and for perusing Goodreads for new books to read. :)

message 210: by Tina (new)

Tina I can't really vote on this one. Kindle Fire, yes almost exclusively read. iPad, no, I rarely use it for reading.

message 211: by Christopher (new)

Christopher I use my tablet a LOT for reading (the questions in this poll were extremely limiting), but I have not read that many books on it (and I prefer to read books the old-fashioned way). What I read on it - voraciously - is the news. I love news aggregator apps like Flipboard and Pulse.

message 212: by Francisco (new)

Francisco I would use everything, while I use a tablet for reading books, I don't mind reading paper, especially as ebooks are not really as cheap as promised. But I've also got used to read ebooks even on a PC screen.

The cool think about tablets is their weight, they are quite light, real ebook readers are even lighter but I wouldn't pay for an ebook having a tablet, it's not worth it and there are really good apps for ebook reading out there.

message 213: by Ansareen (new)

Ansareen I read on my tablet cuz whenever i check out a library book, I forget to return it. But honestly, i like holding the book and reading it better.

message 214: by Thomas (last edited Aug 07, 2012 06:14PM) (new)

Thomas Locke I bought a very efficient G-Pad (Thailand Product) as I live in Thailand. My tablet is used primarily for reading and educational games for my daughter. And as I live in an area that does not have an English Language bookstore this sturdy little device has been a godsent.

message 215: by Zaneta (new)

Zaneta Pietrzyk I only want one for when I'm taking trips. My mum is already complaining how I want to take 5 books to Poland. It would be a bit better to have a Kindle in the kind of situation.

message 216: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I have the Nook and Kindle apps on my HTC phone, iPad, and iTouch. I lie reading regular books but having that apps make it easier to carry things around.

message 217: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Elizabeth I recently went from kindle to ipad and I have to say I enjoy reading on both. I thought that the backlit pages would be an issue on the ipad but with the glare free screen protector I use its ok and it means one less device to carry. The ipad lets me do all sorts of other things, which is nice, but its my primary source of reading these days.

message 218: by Jill (new)

Jill Love, love, love my Kindle Fire...

message 219: by Allen (new)

Allen No option for what I do as well. I do most of my reading on my Kindle. My iPad is for reading PDF files. They are too small on paper, I don't enjoy reading long form on my computer so I read lots of reports and some PDF books on the iPad, where I can highlight and make notes.

message 220: by tiff (new)

tiff Have an Asus Transformer Pad and a NookColor. I have 1400 books on both (the same books). I told myself I'd never read on a tablet or ereader ever. Then I decided to get a NookColor (the guy at B&N really hooked me) and I haven't looked back. I still have physical books but this is just so much easier, easier to buy, easier to carry, easier to annotate and look up words or phrases and share what you're reading. I won't go back to solely physical books.

message 221: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Camacho I have a Kindle. What else is it good for?

message 222: by Allen (new)

Allen Anthony wrote: "I have a Kindle. What else is it good for?"

Besides reading books you mean?
I have SENDtoREADER installed on my computer and I send stuff to the Kindle that are quite long. I read them off line at my leisure and away from the computer.
I put personal documents on my Kindle that I want to have handy since I take my Kindle everywhere. Checklists, shopping lists, doctor question lists, list of license plate numbers, stuff like that.
I keep most of my books catalogued on Calibre and push them to the Kindle so that I have a few books ahead that I want to read.
I have collections for Reading, Read, Food, Writing, Manuals, Games, Pictures and Health.
There are many apps that work on the Kindle, mostly games. I have "My Checklist" installed at the moment.

message 223: by Garrett (new)

Garrett I want a tablet, but defintitely not for reading because of the glare. I read almost exclusively on my Kindle Touch. With a clip on night light, reading in the darkness of the bedroom is a non-issue.

message 224: by Reia (new)

Reia Akins I love my iPad! I only buy books that I want to physically keep. With my husband in the army, it's more convient. But I do almost everything on my iPad.

message 225: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen I own both an iPad and a Kindle Fire. I read on my Kindle and do everything else on my iPad.

message 226: by Juan (new)

Juan Why are iPads/Nexus/tablets being lumped together with ebook readers like Kindle or Nook? No one gets an iPad to read books on it, and no one gets a Kindle to play games on it. Tablets =/= Ebook readers.

message 227: by Kathleen (new)

I agree, Juan. They should be separate categories. Who would spend $500-800 for an iPad to use as a reader?

message 228: by Carol (new)

Carol Friel I like real books, and I want to save bookstores.

message 229: by Wan Norjihan (new)

Wan Norjihan Abdullah I have an iPad, but I used it mostly to keep my works related documents and books.

I use it to read books, magazines, the Quran and do'a when I travel.

But, I will still bring one or two books, love the smell of books.

message 230: by Emily (new)

Emily I love my Kindle Fire. I used to prefer holding an actual book in my hands while reading, but now that my kids can read that's not always a good idea. I love having the ability to put a password om it!

message 231: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Carole, I very much appreciate your sentiment. As for me, I no longer have any more room for paper books and I'm married to a tree-hugger. :) Thus, my migration to the electronic world for stories and information.

message 232: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Glende I love my Kindle Fire for reading! it is very convenient and suits my busy lifestyle!

message 233: by [deleted user] (new)

The question is "primarily for reading", but the answer is somewhere between

"Yes. I read books on my tablet and love it." which I do, but which also suggests that I use the tablet only for reading

and

"No. I have a tablet but I use it mostly for movies, games, and the web." which suggests that I don't read much at all.

Actually it's about 50% reading and 50% other.

message 234: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie Gavan No, but I read through iBook on my iPhone.

message 235: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos I use my tablet for medicinal purposes.

message 236: by Ginny (new)

Ginny I read books from the library, on my Ipad and my Kindle. I like reading electronically but LOVE reading real books, the feel of them. Never buy real books any more, though.

message 237: by Luke (new)

Luke I use a kindle. Just upgraded my old Kindle 2 to a Kindle Paperwhite - super happy with it. E-ink agrees with my eyes for extended reading sessions much more than reading on a backlit tablet/laptop display.

Allen Luke wrote: "I use a kindle. Just upgraded my old Kindle 2 to a Kindle Paperwhite - super happy with it. E-ink agrees with my eyes for extended reading sessions much more than reading on a backlit tablet/lapt..."

I also just switched from my keyboard Kindle to the Paperwhite model. It is not nearly as intuitive as the keyboard model, and I actually had to read the manual. On the other hand it is much easier to make notations, highlight, set bookmarks, etc. I think I will keep this one and let the other one be my backup. I am having trouble getting SENDtoREADER to send to the new one. The built in light is far superior than the one in the Kindle Cover for my K3.

On the other hand, it is quirky. Tapping to go forward one page sometimes changes the font to HUGE and I cannot correct that one handed. The share come up at the end even if it is not a sharable book. Turning the wi-fi back off is not readily available and takes too many steps. Highlighting often goes off onto another page because I came too close to an edge. This device needs some of the features turned off when just reading and the estimate for how long it runs between charges is a fantasy. I am running about 8 days between charges and that is only if I go to the trouble of turning off the wi-fi. The more I use it the more frustrated I get.

message 239: by Liza (new)

Liza I do have a Kindle but like the feel of a real book in my hands and HATE recharging the Kindle. I like being able to check out a book for FREE at my local library. I read "real books" more often than using the Kindle.

message 240: by Allen (new)

Allen My Kindle does more than just have a feel to it. I can change the font to LARGE PRINT size. Most books are not available in large print, they are too damn heavy and very expensive. Besides, I can mark up my e-copy which I would never think of doing to a library book. Different strokes for different folks!

message 241: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Switched over to a kindle fire and i now read all my bools on it. Love the fact I am able to alter the font.

message 242: by M F (new)

M F If I got a tablet, I would probably use it for other things that I can't do on my Kindle. I don't want to read on a backlit device because it gives me eye strain.

message 243: by Cindy (new)

Cindy I am sure I will get one some day.. I love to read in any format.

message 244: by Juan (new)

Juan I have a Kindle Fire, and use it for most of all my reading: books, news, mail, and social media.

message 245: by David (new)

David I have like seven tablets. I eat off them for breakfast. For forks and spoons, I use iPhones. For napkins, I use orphans.

message 246: by Reem (new)

Reem i want a tablet but not at all for reading. my eyes will start hurting if i get to stuck with an amazing book! starting at a screen is also not very good for u:)

message 247: by Roy (new)

Roy I do most of my reading on a Kindle. Also have a couple of iPads, but even with retina displays they are much harder on the eyes.

message 249: by Eva (new)

Eva Vanthomme I do read on my tablet because it's very convenient and I'm constantly reading when I'm on the go, but I still love the feel of a book in my hands. I do try to get a physical copy of an ebook if I've read it, because I absolutely love the look of a nicely filled bookshelf as well.

message 250: by Ansareen (new)

Ansareen I broke my tablet (again) =(
but i guess it doesn't really matter 'cuz i don't like reading on a tablet.
