Prices are configured for 18 People (I was counting all 15 people who voted on the last poll, plus Jonathan and Lauren and one more for good measure):

If we were to stay Saturday to Saturday, it would affect the prices as follows:

Kingston 7 Nights: 184 Per Person, This Includes Tax
Moclips 7 Nights: 191 Per Person, This Includes Tax

Cle Elum 1: Not available 7 nights.
Cle Elum 2: Difference will probably be only $5 per person.

Of course, I am sure it is possible to negotiate, as Alan mentioned on the other thread.

message 2: by Les (new)

Les Thanks again, Elizabeth. They all are so close in price that it makes little difference and allows us just to vote on the particulars of each place.

thanks for the clarification, and handy dandy chart, elizabeth. i went back and counted up from the list that was posted earlier, and it looks to me like at least twenty people? i don't expect you to re-examine the math but thought people should know that it's probably more than fifteen if it helps them make a decision about whether to attend.

thing of it is, kerry's right that a lot of people won't know if they can come for sure (myself included) until we know the where and when. :) mo/xo

Hi Les! Thanks for reminding me not to worry. :) So glad you'll be there. The rookies of 2011 are making a strong comeback.

xo to you mo.

Yes, excel really puts the "Dork" in Dorkapalooza.

message 6: by Gloria (new)

Gloria Circumstances have (surprisingly and happily) changed and I didn't even have to rob my bank. One more newbie from last year will be there!

message 7: by Jennie (new)

Jennie Hettrick Yeah Gloria!

message 8: by Les (new)

Les Sweet! As Elizabeth said, "The rookies of 2011 are making a strong comeback." Boo ya, Fo sho! (attributed to Shawn White ca. 2007)

elizabeth, les, gloria (and the other rookies attending that haven't commented here): it's a testament to the ongoing vivacity of this group that we've been lucky enough to attract young bloods like you. old timers like me worry that there's not the volume of conversation that once flooded the gates of the fiction files, but we have to remember that we attract quality, and quantity isn't as important. (of course it wouldn't hurt if goodreads could add that "unread" functionality that they have for groups on the web app to the web platform -- i discovered this on my phone the other day and i was amazed at all the posts i need to catch up on. :)

also, i hope that we get some new rookies so you can all be promoted to sophomores, and i will be promoted to ancient relic. :)

mo
xo

and to contradict something i just said, quantity is more important than quality when it comes to votes on this here poll -- of course, this is north america and a democratic election. :P

there are only 11 votes so far (i can see that because i posted the poll but i don't think you can)... hopefully more people will chime in soon. :)

I've already done my chiming and I hope to goodness that I can come this year! It would make five Dorks in a row for me!

message 11: by Patty (new)

Patty Mod
I know that in the past we usually haven't had all dorks on all nights, but it does make me feel a little nervous that we are talking about splitting 8 or 9 beds between 20 people. Someone say something reassuring to me.

message 12: by Les (new)

Les Sleeping on the beach! :)

message 13: by Les (new)

Les Or outside or wherever. I am a horrible poker player . . . not that I was revealing my hand or anything.

message 14: by Neil (new)

Neil McCrea Couch, floor, beach, driveway, under the dining room table, I'll be fine.

message 15: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Dunn Mod
Remember Patty, JE will most likely have the MOHO where he and his family will sleep. That still doesn't account for everybody, but it's something!

message 16: by Les (new)

Les Neil, Brock, and I seem to be on the same page. That has to be somewhat reassuring, Patty?

message 17: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Mod
. . . i'll sleep in the moho for sure . . . owen may need a bed though, cuz i don't want him rolling off that five foot high bed . . . man, this is tough, i don't know where to choose!

message 18: by Patty (new)

Patty Mod
Neil, Brock and Les, that does make me feel better. And then of course there are those of you who don't sleep.

not that this should sway anyone- but just to pass along. and to Patty, or whoever, may still have some concerns or more specific questions... this guy has been most attentive and quick to respond-

Mark at Moclips appears to want us.(?)

Dang. This is totally rad Jennie! It's HUGE. I changed my vote to this one!

Will he hold it for us until the voting is over? Maybe we should make the voting end earlier than Feb. 12th? I think we should pounce on this!

message 24: by Maureen (last edited Feb 09, 2012 03:08PM) (new)

Maureen Mod
I was wondering myself if we should change the date. At this point I think we have more comments from people who have voted on the poll than votes on the poll itself. unless anyone strenuously, maybe i should end the poll tomorrow? and then patty (i think it's patty) can pull the trigger on whatever is decided?

message 25: by Kerry (new)

I would agree to that.

How many people have voted?

message 28: by Maureen (last edited Feb 09, 2012 06:22PM) (new)

Maureen Mod
there are currently thirteen votes in the tally. :)

just for the record, did anybody actually get the invitation to the poll that i sent?

message 29: by Patty (new)

Patty Mod
I didn't.

message 30: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Mod
okay, well, then i'm guessing there is some wonky functionality around the polling invitations. but now we know why it's getting so little play -- only people who have been following the dork '12 thread would have seen it...

so do i change the date of the poll? or do we stick?

message 31: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Mod
i just changed it to the 11th. if that is unacceptable, feel free to shout out.

message 32: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Mod
but not until tomorrow because i am disappearing from the interweb to deal with my sadness. :)

message 33: by Lara (new)

Lara Mod
i'm sure i voted for the big house right from the start (as having lots of room for my elbows is one of my favourite pastimes)but i got nervous reading all your posts and trying to remember what's what(my memory has gone to shit since my last episode) so i "changed my vote" to cle elum one just to make sure - that IS the big house, right?

god, i can't wait to finally sort out flights and annual leave - i feel like we've been faffing about with this FOREVER.

[mo? what sadness? what's happened?]

message 34: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Dunn Mod
Yeah, I didn't get the poll invite either.

message 35: by Gloria (new)

Gloria I received the poll invite (as well as Dan's earlier). You may have to set up in your email section of your profile that you want to get notices when someone invites you to take a poll...?

Mo, I hope your night went well and that today looks brighter for you. :)

message 36: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Mod
hiya guys - i got the poll invite. at this point, i can't say i'll be there this year. so i'm not really sure if i should vote?

i was also wondering if anyone knew app. distances from the airport? and if there are airport shuttles nearby? I saw the moclips info above - 3 hrs to sea-tac - if someone has already looked this up that would be useful info. i have a pretty good idea of my pick - if i'm given the go ahead to vote - so if this information is not known it's not a big deal. :)

miss and love you guys!
jennifer

message 37: by Jennie (new)

Jennie Hettrick There is a bus to cle elum. I think someone used that two years ago when we were in that area. The beach... I don't know, jenn.

message 38: by Patty (new)

Patty Mod
From Seatac:
135 miles to moclips
40 miles to kingston
90 miles to cle elum

I don't think there was a bus from Cle Elum to Sea Tac, but there was a regularly scheduled airport shuttle. You had to call ahead otherwise they would skip the stop.

You can probably get an airport shuttle from Seatac to Moclips, it might be pricey. Moclips is on Grays Harbor Transit, which hooks up with Thurston county transit in Olympia, and possibly also Pierce county transit in Tacoma (just south of SeaTac). But as always, I'm sure we'll work out some way of ferrying the car-less.

message 39: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Mod
thanks! i took a bus back to seatac in 2010, so you might be referring to me, jennie. i can't remember the town where i caught the bus. it worked out really well though; no one had to take me all the way to the airport in the middle of the dork.

message 40: by Jennie (new)

Jennie Hettrick I may very well have been you, jenn :)

message 41: by Jennie (new)

Jennie Hettrick Is it the big house then? The poll is open. Looks like by two votes.

message 43: by Jennie (new)

The other half shouldn't be due till at least two weeks into July. I lost count on how many are going to be there thus year.
