message 301: by Rajan (new)

Rajan I have to travel a lot in the city. SO on my travel, I frequently visit bookstore, where I come up with the books i read. Once, I bought 3 books on the same day.

Rajan Brianna wrote: "My aunt hahahaha"

that's a nice thing about her. I would really adore her doing that.

Norma Daniel wrote: "my parents forced me to. i hate it so much when they make me read books i hate"
Don't finish it then. I always say life's too short for reading books you don't enjoy.

message 305: by Amber (new)

Amber My mom uses my kindle account, and when I used my kindle last week it was the first book to pop up. It was definitely a good read.

message 306: by Victor (new)

Victor The Album title of a band makes reference to this book

message 307: by Jon (new)

Jon Snow My dad got it for my sister

message 308: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne I picked "the media" because that was about the closest I can come to when I first learned that A Picture of Dorian Gray existed or roughly what it was about. This poll is definitely missing an option for things like classic books that someone's grown up hearing mentions of or literary allusions to or learning about the author (or playwright, I guess, since I learned about Wilde in the context of theatre) in an educational setting and just never got around to reading the book for a long time.

An "Other" option would probably not be amiss in most of these polls.

message 309: by Amy (new)

Amy Engels I found the book I'm currently reading (Paper Towns) 'cause I was reading the other books by John Green and also because the movie will come out and I want to read the book before I see the movie..

message 310: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Book Club

message 311: by Phantomº (new)

Phantomº Lord of the Rings : Fellowship of the ring ♥ Christmas Present from my mother ♥

message 312: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I found out from a friend in a social discourse group that I belong to.

message 313: by Laura (new)

Laura Combination of favorite author, blogging, book tour and group. Many friends in reading and writing communities.

message 314: by Sally (new)

Sally Cunliffe It is To Kill a Mockingbird, one of those I have been meaning to read for years but only just got around to it

message 315: by Annika (new)

Annika I swiped the last book I read from my sister's bookshelf (I put it back, I promise!) and generally read things at random that take my fancy from my bookshelf or the library.

message 316: by Kristi (new)

Kristi Jefferson My friend bought me this book :)

message 317: by Ami (new)

Ami I usually hate realistic fiction (no offense), but I have a 4o-book-challenge that I am doing in my school and for realistic fiction my teacher recommended "The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate" by Jacqueline Kelly. I read that and it is amazing!

message 318: by Hari (new)

Hari Brandl I find out about most of the books I want to read from the Newyorker and from the Washington Post Book World. I find that their reviewers' tastes are quite congruent with mine.

message 319: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Most books I read I find out about them via Booktube.

message 320: by Beth (new)

Beth Jones None of those! I was asked to read it by the author, Larry Rodness. Really good book!

message 321: by Vanshikha (new)

Vanshikha Vij The last book I read was Happily ever after by kiera cass. I'm in a reading slump so it was really easy to get into because I've read all her other books so I knew it would help me. So basically none of the above apply to me!

message 322: by Evgeni (new)

Evgeni Kirilov This poll really needs an option like "from famous people." A large number of books I try come from authors I already like recommending their colleagues.

message 323: by Zippergirl (new)

Zippergirl I get FREE BOOK email alerts from several sources, and i grab the good ones. In lieu of that choice, i went with Amazon, which is where i ultimately wind up.

message 324: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Barter The last 2 books I got I took from my city transit company. The city started a pilot program recently that's being partnered between the library and the city buses.I'd like to see it stay,it's great way to get people to enjoy reading and appreciate our libraries more.

Mekiah Johnson hype, photo's of arc copies

message 326: by ~☆~Autumn (new)

~☆~Autumn The neverending quiz clued me in to a book I discovered that I wanted.

message 327: by Andrea (new)

Andrea My father recommended to me the last book I read. It was about leadership... I actually liked it :D

Lillie (LillietheFangirl) I'm currently reading Get Happy, which was given to me as a gift for Christmas (I know, I'm really behind).

message 329: by Stewart (new)

Stewart The Three Body Problem - it was a gift.

message 330: by Felix (new)

Felix Foote The way I discovered the Red Dwarf omnibus is actually a combination of library and bookstore. I regularly visit a library that sells used books in its basement, and I bought a cheap copy of the omnibus that randomly ended up there.

message 331: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Barter I get references from this site, magazines, and I' m also on the Harper Collins sites

message 332: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Crull-sher I didn't find out about this specific series from a friend, but she recommended a different series by the author and now I'm reading everything else he's written, so I figure it's close enough.

message 333: by Ruthanne (new)

Ruthanne Johnston Just finished Our Man in Moscow by Amor Towles...incredible book! Now I want to read everything he has written.

Jaxon(Jax)[They-He] Ive found out about The Looking Glass Wars from my parents getting it for me because they thought that I'd like it and I did

message 335: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a classic of which I've heard years ago... I don't remember how I heard for it the first time. :)

message 336: by C I N D L E (new)

C I N D L E The last book I read was 'Born Survivors' by Wendy Holden. It was part of Amazon's month of May Prime Reading selection for non-fiction titles. Excellent but heart-wrenching story, by the way. Born Survivors by Wendy Holden

soph.connects.the.dots I just watched "The Walk," so I'm reading Philippe Petit's actual memoir about his high wire walk between the Twin Towers, To Reach the Clouds

message 338: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Barter I was on 'The Great American Read' site , and posters were praising this novel 'Where The Crawdads Sing', so I decided to investigate.

message 339: by Kim (new)

Kim Well actually the movie is one of my favourites, so I figured I should read the book now that I'm old enough :)
