Jayden I find out about books a lot! Mentioned in another book, friends, family, gifts, buying at the book store. Thats' it basically.

message 152: by Jayden (new)

Jayden Sorry, I should say "I find out about books in a few different ways."

JinxedLupiePrincess Technically, the one I just finished was recommended by a friend. But it was also the second in a series and the first book was a gift from my best friend :)

message 154: by Marilee (new)

Marilee In the case of the last book I just read, I sought it out as it's a book by a favorite author.

message 155: by Heather (new)

Heather Goodreads and amazon reviews

message 156: by Jayden (new)

Jayden Heather wrote: "Goodreads and amazon reviews"

You don't like read the back of the book to see if you'll like it?

message 157: by Kristi (new)

Kristi Typically I learn about them on the book blogs I follow, or I pick them up off the shelves of the library. In most cases, like the last book I read, I wander the library shelves for hours at a time pulling off any title or book cover that catches my interest.

message 158: by [deleted user] (new)

The last book I read, which began with the first in a series, was a freebie for my Kindle. I loved the series. Had to buy the others, but thats okay. It' worth it.

message 159: by [deleted user] (new)

The last book I read that wasn't school-required wasn't actually a book, per se. It was a fan fic that was recommended to me by a buddy in an RP chat, "Time Lords and Terror". Since school isn't a choice on here, I'm rolling with TLaT as my last one :P

message 160: by Ellese (new)

Ellese None of these answers, it was the next one I had to get in one of my series :)

message 161: by Matt (new)

Matt Maldre It would be way rad if Goodreads had a field on each book profile for us to say how we discovered the book.

message 162: by Serena (new)

Serena Matt wrote: "It would be way rad if Goodreads had a field on each book profile for us to say how we discovered the book."

Yes it would! That would be awesome.

message 163: by rivka (new)

rivka The "Who recommended it to me" field is for exactly that.

message 164: by Andrew (new)

Andrew I picked "The Garden of Evening Mists" from the Booker long list and followed Amazon recommendations until I found "The Night Circus". Two utter gems that I can't recommend highly enough.

message 165: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen You forgot to include a very important source of recommendations: FACEBOOK.

Jayden Kathleen wrote: "You forgot to include a very important source of recommendations: FACEBOOK."
LOL

message 167: by Fred (new)

Fred Arshoff I also look for books in various hospitals where the proceeds goes to buy new equipment for the hospital. They have a lot of different type of books and those selling may remember you like a certain type of book or writer and show you what they have that is came in recently.

message 168: by [deleted user] (new)

I get alot of freebies on my Kindle. If its a series, I usually go through the Library or we are always swaping books at work. I also spend hours at Goodwill going through the used books. I will never read all the books I have.

same! LOL

message 171: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Weatherly I am new to this community, so I am sure that I will find a lot of recommendations on here. I traditionally look at the clearance section of a used book store to find my goodreads.

message 172: by Lorie (new)

Lorie Actually, the last book I read was a recommendation from a student: "Rooftop", and it was awesome :)

message 173: by Judi (new)

Judi This was a tough one, since I didn't see my answers on the list! I don't ever select a book based on recommendations from friends or family; I can't imagine them having the same tastes! Often, in newspaper book reviews an author will catch my interest & I'll look up what he or she has written. I also like seeing what books my favorite authors are reading and if an author is mentioned in a book that I like, I check them out.

message 174: by [deleted user] (new)

The last book I read was The Language of Flowers. Loved it. It was the most recent selection for my local bookclub.

message 175: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen The last book I read was suggested on a discussion thread on Amazon.

message 176: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay It was a sequel to a book I loved (Howl's Moving Castle) and I happened upon it at the bookstore. I was so happy! :D It was adorable.

message 177: by James (new)

James Lawless Goodreads commendations are informed and useful and some books I read are random chances, aware of many a flower blushing unseen without the strobe lights of media.

message 178: by Kaidon (new)

Kaidon Because the front cover looked pretty. But I went with Bestsellers list.

message 179: by Nicci (new)

Nicci Hartland most of my books come from my Nook freebie of the week. But this site has some great ideas as well for books to read.

message 180: by James (new)

James Lawless 'A Possible Life' by Sebastian Faulks I received as a copy to review for the Irish Sunday Independent.

message 181: by TinaBean (new)

TinaBean I've been finding great books on here.
But I also use http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk

message 182: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Just finished The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris by David McCullough. Decided to read it after I saw and interview with him on TV and found him to be very interesting. Figured I would give it a shot and I was not disappointed.

Brianna Melissa wrote: "The last book I read was actually written by my bestie and two other friends. it's amazing!"

What is it?

message 188: by E (new)

E It's usually the next book in the series. For new books I go and check what my friends are reading on goodreads.

message 189: by [deleted user] (new)

Next book in series for paperback and new book by
Stephanie Meyer I read about on Kindle

message 190: by Ceej (new)

Ceej I have found books every which way you can imagine, but word of mouth or just seeing it in the book store are my favorite. Goodreads is my next go too for a new series! :)

message 191: by Mildred (new)

Mildred I started reading my book because it had an exert in a short stories book that I found in the library for a project? A Thousand Nights and a Night is awesome ^.^

message 192: by JeNee (new)

JeNee Reading: John Dies at the End.

Saw it on a table in the bookstore. Read the back. Decided it was worth reading.

It's weird. It's messed up. It's fun. It's a head trip.

message 193: by Rhiannon (new)

Rhiannon A gift

message 194: by Brianna (new)

Brianna None of the above.

message 195: by Judith (new)

Judith Schara Mostly from blogs that review books. I used to browse in book stores, too, but that avenue, alas, is almost gone. I am new to the Goodreads community and hope to find in it another way to find out about books to read.

message 196: by xtian (new)

xtian since i joined Goodreads on October, all the books i read are based on reviews and ratings.

message 197: by Samyann (new)

Samyann The last book, The Hobbit. The next, Fellowship of the Rings. How did I hear about them? Um. It's Tolkien. I don't really know.

message 198: by Christine (new)

Christine My answer isn't even on the list of choices...I went to the author's website to find one I hadn't read by him yet.

I read a Jack Reacher book yonks ago. Is he the one who can tell what the time is without looking at a clock/watch? If so, that was a really good book! Glad he's gaining popularity even now :)
