If it said writer I probably would have voted for Dahl, but he never got kids to line up around the block for his next book and I nbever heard of a BFG themed birthday party.
Roald Dahl is a classic. JK Rowling is very good, but we've only seen one series by her with the same characters and same story. Dahl was so imaginative and wrote numerous excellent books. He'll always have a place in my collection.
I find it hard to compare them because though they both write for children, their work hardly seem in the same genre.
They are both excellent writers, but I prefer J.K. Rowling. Although she has only written one series, it sure kept me going for awhile.
Both wonderful writers in their individual ways, but Dahl is definitly meant more for a younger audiance.
I love J.K. Rowling's books(some of my fave books ever, harry potter!!!) but i think Roald Dahl is a better CHILDREN'S author.
For children definitely Roald Dahl! Otherwise, definitely Rowling imo
I truly enjoy both authors. I grew up reading all the fantastic worlds created by Roald Dahl. I would say Roald Dahl is better for children's books. The worlds that J.K. Rowling has created seem to me are for an older audience.
I agree with Katie, because where J.K. Rowling is GREAT author, and has some AWESOME books that I LOVE, Roald Dahl is definatly a better children book author. One of my favorite books of his, is The BFG. I have read this book a few times, and though some people might think it a bit strange, is really an interesting book.
I'm not a Dahl fan. I'm not a Harry Potter fan either, but I probably like Rowling's work better. But Rowling wrote just one series that went from children's to YA at the end, and I think that Dahl's work is so much more varied. I'm positive he wrote creepy short stories as well as zany children's books. I think his imagination was probably crazier than Rowling's. Anyway, for now, I'd have to say that he's the better children's book author. That could change, depending on the way Rowling's career goes.
Roald Dahl, of course. He has produced so many modern classics for children. J.K. Rowling is strictly young adult, maybe the first few Harry Potter books were for children, but not the rest of them.
I have to disagree with Jane. People never lined the corner, because he wrote these books before there were any book fans that did such things. No one lined up for other classics either.

but, i hafta agree, harry potter does get kinda scary. especially the 4th movie end!! but i still think it's genuine kid lit. but i think everyone ages 9 and up should read it.

Plus, when I was reading Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, I totally loved it, but I also kind of thought he was on drugs or something when he wrote it. :P
I dont know because i like both of them - roald dahl is an amazing writer and i voted for him as he is more for children plus he has many classics including willy wonka and the choclate plus my fav film maltida but if i had to read a book now it would be jk rowlings harry potter series which are also amazing and fun to read
Even though I'm a big JKR fan (and a super hp nerd!) I chose RD, because he wrote a huge range of stories, enough for any taste :)
I DON'T KNOW....but I'll probably vote for Dahl- I really enjoyed his books- not that I didn't enjoy Rowlings.......
I really beleive that these two authors have so little in common that there is no way to select between them fairly. Dahl writes for a younger set altogether and his books are often read to the children, so selected by an adult. However with the Potter books, not only are they addressed to an older age group, these young readers actually chose them. Any writer who creates stories so desired by young readers is doing a great service to readers in general.
yah the comment above me is right jk rowling is NOT a chrildrens author!
This is too difficult - I love them both! But will give my vote to Roald Dahl because he has a more diverse body of work, and I fell in love with the BFG, The Witches and Matilda when i was growing up...
J.K ROWLING IS NOT A CHILDRENS AUTHOR!REAPEAT: NOT A CHILDRENS AUTHOR!
yah see, someone agrees with me!Thank you paige!
They are both completely amazing authors, they both wrote books that are favourites of mine. How can I compare them??? : P
