message 1: by Emma the Dork (new)

Emma the Dork i voted for jk rowling becuse i had more of a love for her books, while the roald dahl books were things that i read when i was bored.

message 2: by Jane (new)

Jane If it said writer I probably would have voted for Dahl, but he never got kids to line up around the block for his next book and I nbever heard of a BFG themed birthday party.

message 3: by Santh (new)

Santh memories i'm always amazed by JK Rowling's the imagination, sense of humor, etc
^^

message 4: by Orin (new)

Orin Roald Dahl is a classic. JK Rowling is very good, but we've only seen one series by her with the same characters and same story. Dahl was so imaginative and wrote numerous excellent books. He'll always have a place in my collection.

message 5: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen I find it hard to compare them because though they both write for children, their work hardly seem in the same genre.

message 6: by Kathy (new)

Kathy They are both excellent writers, but I prefer J.K. Rowling. Although she has only written one series, it sure kept me going for awhile.

xXRossiya AruXx both are excellent writers, but I think Dahl has a more kiddish style.

message 8: by Jasper (new)

Jasper Both wonderful writers in their individual ways, but Dahl is definitly meant more for a younger audiance.

message 9: by Sally (new)

Sally neither: Rowling ceased being a children's author with book 6, and Dahl is plain creepy!! ;)

message 10: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ roald dahl all the way ;D

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I love J.K. Rowling's books(some of my fave books ever, harry potter!!!) but i think Roald Dahl is a better CHILDREN'S author.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

For children definitely Roald Dahl! Otherwise, definitely Rowling imo

message 13: by Susan (new)

Susan I truly enjoy both authors. I grew up reading all the fantastic worlds created by Roald Dahl. I would say Roald Dahl is better for children's books. The worlds that J.K. Rowling has created seem to me are for an older audience.

message 14: by Clara (new)

Clara Dahl gives me nightmares! Would never read any of his books to a child I actually LIKE!

message 15: by Bailey (new)

Bailey I agree with Katie, because where J.K. Rowling is GREAT author, and has some AWESOME books that I LOVE, Roald Dahl is definatly a better children book author. One of my favorite books of his, is The BFG. I have read this book a few times, and though some people might think it a bit strange, is really an interesting book.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not a Dahl fan. I'm not a Harry Potter fan either, but I probably like Rowling's work better. But Rowling wrote just one series that went from children's to YA at the end, and I think that Dahl's work is so much more varied. I'm positive he wrote creepy short stories as well as zany children's books. I think his imagination was probably crazier than Rowling's. Anyway, for now, I'd have to say that he's the better children's book author. That could change, depending on the way Rowling's career goes.

Ethan The Talkative One :D
HARD ONE!!!!

message 18: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla VdL yep...hard one(cant decide)

message 19: by siyao (new)

siyao SO HARD!! I chose JKR

message 20: by Celia (new)

Celia Guzi y roald daulh??? he's so weird! jk created a world!!

message 21: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda i love JK Rowling, because i love her!! I don't have Roald Dahl books, just a few.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Roald Dahl, of course. He has produced so many modern classics for children. J.K. Rowling is strictly young adult, maybe the first few Harry Potter books were for children, but not the rest of them.

I have to disagree with Jane. People never lined the corner, because he wrote these books before there were any book fans that did such things. No one lined up for other classics either.

message 23: by Jaena4 (new)

Jaena4 Beadling For my money, JKR, while fun, hardly even registers as a good writer of children's lit.

message 24: by Celia (new)

Celia Guzi duh! a wizards school! 11 year olds!! yeah!!!!!

message 25: by Celia (new)

Celia Guzi celia ♥ wrote: "duh! a wizards school! 11 year olds!! yeah!!!!! "

flying brooms! evil snakes!!! magic!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Death, blood on walls...

message 27: by Celia (new)

Celia Guzi oh, come on! Kids love that stuff!

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol, yeah, I guess they do.

message 29: by Celia (new)

Celia Guzi but, i hafta agree, harry potter does get kinda scary. especially the 4th movie end!! but i still think it's genuine kid lit. but i think everyone ages 9 and up should read it.

message 30: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Jayne wrote: "Both wrote very good stories, but from a technical, good writer standpoint, Dahl is much, much better."

true dat!!

message 31: by Jay (new)

Jay Daze Apples and Oranges. But Dahl's books are my childhood.

Nightshade Emma the Dork/Gleek wrote: "i voted for jk rowling becuse i had more of a love for her books, while the roald dahl books were things that i read when i was bored."

Same here!

Plus, when I was reading Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, I totally loved it, but I also kind of thought he was on drugs or something when he wrote it. :P

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Love R.D

message 34: by Crystal (new)

Crystal I dont know because i like both of them - roald dahl is an amazing writer and i voted for him as he is more for children plus he has many classics including willy wonka and the choclate plus my fav film maltida but if i had to read a book now it would be jk rowlings harry potter series which are also amazing and fun to read

message 35: by Laura (new)

Laura Even though I'm a big JKR fan (and a super hp nerd!) I chose RD, because he wrote a huge range of stories, enough for any taste :)

message 36: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess I voted for Dahl-only because he had more books published.

message 37: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess (I agree with Laura)

Chiara ♪*CheesecakeLover*♪ I DON'T KNOW....but I'll probably vote for Dahl- I really enjoyed his books- not that I didn't enjoy Rowlings.......

message 39: by Valentine (last edited Sep 29, 2010 05:26AM) (new)

Valentine I really beleive that these two authors have so little in common that there is no way to select between them fairly. Dahl writes for a younger set altogether and his books are often read to the children, so selected by an adult. However with the Potter books, not only are they addressed to an older age group, these young readers actually chose them. Any writer who creates stories so desired by young readers is doing a great service to readers in general.

message 40: by Hanna (new)

Hanna I like J.K Rowling more but Roald Dahl writes better CHILDREN'S books.

message 41: by is mee... kissa (new)

is mee... kissa Hanna wrote: "I like J.K Rowling more but Roald Dahl writes better CHILDREN'S books."

agreed

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

yah the comment above me is right jk rowling is NOT a chrildrens author!

message 43: by Natasha (new)

Natasha This is too difficult - I love them both! But will give my vote to Roald Dahl because he has a more diverse body of work, and I fell in love with the BFG, The Witches and Matilda when i was growing up...

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

J.K ROWLING IS NOT A CHILDRENS AUTHOR!REAPEAT: NOT A CHILDRENS AUTHOR!

message 45: by Paige (new)

Paige i prefer jkrowling, but not as a children's author; i aggree with Heather! not a children's book

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

yah see, someone agrees with me!Thank you paige!

message 47: by Paige (new)

Paige lolz, your welcome ^_^

message 48: by Savannah (new)
