Wow, I thought most people would vote for 3-5. It's surprising that most people voted for 6+. lol Why did everyone vote for the number they did?

It's hard to choose an option. With some series, it really should stop after three or four books, while others' sequels see a decline in quality but are still worthwhile to read, and others' sequels are brilliant. It depends on the series. For example Harry Potter suited seven books, whereas the Lord of the Rings suited being a trilogy.

If it suits 6+ I'd say it should continue, but the author would have to make sure that they aren't just trying to continue the series for the sake of it or capitalise on past success but genuinely have further stories to tell in that series.

I think 3 but it depends. I love the Morganville Vampires, Lords of the Underworld, Obernewtyn and Immortals After Dark series and they are all 6+ books.

I don't think there should be a limit on how a long a series of books should be, I think they need to be as long as it takes for the plot to work itself out without feeling like it's rushed, but I do think the author should have an end in mind. I hate series that go on indefinitely if there will eventually be an end. For example, books like the magic treehouse series, it doesn't really matter too much if they never stop writing them, because each is pretty much their own, independant story, but books like Artemis Fowl or Game of Thrones where you are expecting some kind of ending are really anoying when they go on indefinitely. I'm not saying the author should know exactly how many books are going to be in the series from the beginning, but a estimate would be really nice. There, that was my rant. I hope that answers the question more fully. :P

I don't care how many books are in a series as long as the previous book leves you wanting more. As soon as it redundant than that should be the end of the series. The longer the better is what I believe.

To me, it really depends on if all of the subcharacters are supported. As long as I know the story of all the characters that I'm interested in and not left hanging, I'm happy.

It depends on whether or not the story has enough content to stretch on for 4+. There are some series like Tales of the Otori, Harry Potter and Twilight that just can. There are others, which I've read but won't mention out of kindness, that reaaaaaaallllllllllllly can't.

Im one of those that, if I like a series, I hate to see it end.

Somebody here had read The Dark series, by Christine Feehan?? It haves 26 books and counting xD I love that serie.... I havent heard of anything longer yet.
