There's something wrong with the Cory Doctorow option. I voted for Steal Across the Sky but Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town does sound interesting too.

Brad, you'll drive me to distraction. I really want to read Steal Across the Sky AND Brown Girl in the Ring AND China Mountain Zhang, (which I skimmed a year ago while ill and appreciated but don't feel I fully 'got' so want to revisit) and I really enjoyed both When Gravity Fails AND World War Z, AND I know I should really try some Cory Doctorow AND here's a Kress I haven't read... If that weren't enough, you include a neglected, unusual gem that I've been promising to read for years - Shikasta, from the esteemed and acclaimed (NOBEL-winning, for Pete's sake!) but not-usually-SF-writing Doris Lessing...a book said to be a weird, wonderful thing deserving of cult classic status. It was so gutsy of Lessing to write this, and I'm happy it's at least on the SF Mistresswords series even if it's been overlooked for more well-known lists.I doubt it will win, but I must vote for Shikasta, if only to show my enthusiasm for a Nobel-winner branching out and loving different genres of literature.
