I would like to write several declared to be some of the best ever, for the sense of personal achievement. It's nice being able to read other great works but it wouldn't be as personal. Given the difference of being the athlete or the audience, I would rather be the athlete.

This is a tough one; however, as much as I'd like to have written several great books, I'd rather read the best (since I read so much).
The second option was tempting but I've found that what are 'considered' to be the best books ever written, I don't always agree with. To the Lighthouse, for example.
I would rather reading the great books instead of writing them. At the end of the day I am a reader, not a writer. I can count on one hand how many great books I've read. It'd be nice to have all of the greats books in the world because nothing beats the feeling of reading an epic book.
Emily wrote: "The second option was tempting but I've found that what are 'considered' to be the best books ever written, I don't always agree with. To the Lighthouse, for example."Great point, Emily.
I agree with Emily's point too. But in the wording of the question it *sounds* like the great books of the present, past, and future would be numerous. I would probably take my chances with the latter choice.
Emily wrote: "The second option was tempting but I've found that what are 'considered' to be the best books ever written, I don't always agree with. To the Lighthouse, for example."I thought of that. I don't always agree either. That is what made this so hard!
I would rather read than write. I have a hard time putting my thoughts on paper. I can say things better than write them down.
I went for the have access to the books, partly because that's likely to be a lot of awesome books and partly because it doesn't rule out the idea of me writing some of them (even though I'm not a writer). Best of both worlds :)
I am not much of a writer nor do I like to write so I want full access to books so I dont have to wait and put holds, or throw away $20 or have to wait weeks when the person DOESNT RETURN THE BOOK!!!!
I rather have the money that you gain for writing several books than have access to the books of the past, present, and future. I could easly go to a book story/library and get the book I want to read and still have money to spare. But If I had to choose now, I would go for the books because I am a terrible writer and would love to have first look at the new Sookie Stackhouse Books.
I would have access to all the books, because I wouldn't want anybody criticizing my book. It would hurt my feeling too much. Plus, reading others' books is just more fun.
I voted for access to all books, I just think it would be amazing to experience those great books that others have, are, and will read.
I'd rather be the writer of the great works, because I'd have a lasting impact on multiple generations.
I'd rather be able to access them all than write them, as I'm not much of a writer and can only imagine the countless years it would take to write "several" books like that :P
This was tough but I would much rather have access to all books. Can you imagine what amazing reads are out there beyond our grasp! Can this also include that I don't need to work any more ;)
I voted for the first option.I'm not a writer either but that would only mean that being able to write some of the best books ever, is a greater achievement than I could ever imagined possible. (However, at the same time I do know that is unlikely, so I wouldn't mind just reading those books then....).
It's a difficult choice, but I am a reader first and the opportunity to read some of the best is too tempting to pass up
I love to write and I love getting lost in a world I made - usually this world is tailored to my preferences, so it's obviously for the best! (So, yeah - I guess I chose the first option!)
I would love to write several books to be some of the best written because I have be writing stuff for years, so it would be great to someday write to be published.
I was so close to choosing the second option, but had to choose the first. Like Emily said, it's not a guarantee that I'd consider what was considered the best books ever written to actually be the best books ever written. Plus I'd rather write several amazing books that made people think and contributed to other people's lives, be able to use the money to help people and buy more books, and just read whatever I wanted to when it came out.
