Whoa...When you go to the Goodreads page for the book, it doesn't show that. But here it does! When the book was nominated, I didn't think anything of it, as the book's page makes it seem a-ok for our purposes. (It doesn't say #2 next to the title on the book's page, which is the usual indicator.) Blast it!

However, I think we're good to leave it in the noms. According to reviewer Michael here on Goodreads:

"First things first: Chasm City is NOT Revelation Space number two, unless the information on Alastair Reynolds’ personal website is wrong. That seems unlikely. Chasm City is stand-alone and can be read at any time."

So it seems that if anything, it is a loose series, like Discworld or New Crobuzan, and it will still work for our purposes. If anyone else has info or input, let us know here.

As far as I know, it's a stand-alone in the Revelation Space universe, but not directly linked to the main trilogy. It just says #2 because that's where it fits chronologically. (Though that chronology is probably even out of date, given how many books have now been written in that universe. . .)

It should be totally fine to read by itself. It's actually where I usually recommend people start with Reynolds. . . :)
