What do you do first...Read the book or Watch the movie?
Read the book!
Depends, sometimes I watch a movie and later find out there is a book, but I usually read the book first.

Watch the movie
Depends which I know of first. If I know there's a movie coming out which is based on I book I'll read the book first, always
(write-in)
It depends what book it is!
Depends on what I can get my hands on first
(write-in)
Eh, it depends
(write-in)
I prefer to read it first but if i have already seen the movie i dont really want to read the book
I would LOVE it if I always read the books first, but usually I don't.
(write-in)
Either I read or I watch; rarely both
(write-in)
I read/watch in no particular order...
(write-in)
Well usually I would want to read the book first, and then I would definitely watch the movie. But if a new movie comes out based on a book I've never heard of then I watch the movie and don't read the book
(write-in)
I hardly ever watch the movies.
(write-in)
i think sometimes reading is harder to picture and understand, so after you watch the movie, it would be easier to understand and picture the book AND the movie.
(write-in)
I don't even know about the book and I will watch the movie first and never read the book or I will know about the book and I still will not read the book.
(write-in)
the book is better with details and its fun
I don't really know? *awkwardly laughs*

I love reading the books first!!! For the books gives you more, then the movies. Or them movies changes things or does not add what the author has written.

I always read the book first. I think it spoils a book more when you've watched the movie than it spoils a movie when you've read the book. (Did that make sense?)I watched Lord of the Rings before I read the books, and I love the movies, but when I tried to read the books, I just couldn't. I never finished the secon one, because I already knew what would happen, and one of the best things about reading books is that you don't know how it will end.
If I read the book first then nothing is spoiled in the movie. For some reason reading the book after the movie makes the book fall a little flat sometimes.
When I read in French, especially for particularly difficult French novels, I usually watch the movie first because it is my second language and I don't read the English versions first. In English, I usually read the book first.
The movies are usually so bad and different compared to the books, unless it's a novelization of, say, a kids' movie, in which case they're about equal...:)
I find if I watch the movie first, I am not dissappointed in it so much. If I have already read a book before the movie comes out I will not bother watching the movie anymore.
Watch the movie first the you might enjoy it, if you read first you will just see all that is wrong with the movie
I usually watch the film first to get the general idea of the book and to help with visualisation of the setting and characters and then I'll read the book. Usually when I read the book then watch the film, I don't enjoy the film as much as I would if I'd watched then read.
If I've read the book, and I find out there's a movie coming out, I like to watch the movie. But if I see a movie and then realize it's a book series (which is what happened for me with Twilight (the first) and Divergent), I enjoy reading the books after the movie because it paints a picture for me that I would have had to create on my own otherwise. It's nice to already "know" what the characters look like. But if it's a series, I do try to read the remaining books prior to the next movie coming out.
I still haven't seen The Fault in Our Stars because I refuse to until I read the book, but I don't really want to read the book so I guess I'll never see it.
Whichever I happen to stumble upon first. That also determines whether or not I will indulge in both formats. If I see a movie first and then learn it is based on a book, I will usually read the book as well. But if I read the book first, I rarely watch the movie.
It depends, for me anyway. I mean, usually when I do both things, it is an old movie from the 40's or around that era. So I like to watch some of the movie like half lets say, so that I am sure that I don't really follow the story(because I never do with old movies for some reason). Then when I read the book before watching the whole film, I can be sure that I had to do so to understand it.
If there is a movie out and I have not read the book already I always wait to watch the movie first. In all my experiences of watching a movie after the book, the movie always was never good.
I some times watch the movie first and sometimes read the book first. For example, i read Percy Jackson first,(i watched the movie a few years before but i forgot.), but i found out there was a movie but i watched a trailer and i didn't want to watch it.
Also, I watched Maze runner(which is my favorite movie) and I don't think i'll read the books. Usually, when I read the books, i don't watch the movie, but sometimes when i watch the movie i don't read the books. Sometimes i do though.
The movie never ruins the book but for me the book has almost always ruined to movie if I read the book first.
Read the book, because some films make a real hash of the book. Worst example of this was
- a good book ruined by the film.
I know it's not a popular opinion, but I think it is better to watch the movie first because the movie is not often as good and the book. So if you watch the movie first you are like wow I really liked that I will go read the book and then you are like WOW the book was even better. However if you read the book first you are like WOW the book was amazing the eh the movie isn't as good. So I think you get the most enjoyment out of watching the movie first.

So if you watch the movie first you are like wow I really l..."When I read a book I always picture the characters in my mind a certain way which I often prefer. After I see the movie I never see the characters the same anymore as they become the actors and actresses who played the part. Sometimes this really annoys me so I always try to read the book first.
I can think of two movies that were better than the books and I was glad in those cases I saw them first but that is very unusual.
Book first. People who say movie first because it paints the picture, well most authors paint the picture for you, and then in your own head, you create your own. I visualize what the author created, and you probably see something a little different. But a movie paints it for you. Books are more detailed. A book is a REALLY long movie, and a movie is like a short story.
I always find that films create a strict picture of settings and how characters are meant to look which ruins my imagination when reading. I'm reading the Hunger Games trilogy but because I've already seen three of the films, I imagine katniss to be Jennifer Lawrence, which is slightly off-putting. Luckily I haven't seen the fourth film so at least I can enjoy the story of Mockingjay.
I prefer to watch the movie first because if I read the book first the movie usually pisses me off by not being accurate. This way I can watch the movie and like it once then read the book which always has more and different information still making it interesting, but normally I like books that don't have movies at all so I don't run into this problem much
Ideally, I'd like to read the book a year or two before watching, so I have some frame of reference and can enjoy the book and movie without ruining either with too much comparison.
Like watching film first and read articles / summation of the film, I know films cut some parts in the book or twist some but it does not piss me off, instead, it makes me understand the book more and get attached to either book or film.
I'm in a quandary about that for Big Little Lies, set in Australia but filmed in US. If I read the book first, the movie will disappoint. If I watch the movie first it'll probably ruin my enjoyment of the book. I think it might have to be one or the other.

I think i prefer to read the book first to have some more context and an idea of what's going on in the movie. Unless i know that the movie sucks/i wouldn't enjoy the story - then i just move on and don't read and don't watch.

LOL ! I think your description of them is a bit much , they are certainly trying to get to the finish line without running the entire race . But to each his own . I prefer reading the book first too .

I like being able to enjoy the movie for what it is without ripping it apart for not being able to live the book. Movies are a lot shorter than books, so it's rarely a perfect one to one translation.

they always change so much in the movie compare to the book but I like readibg the book then if there's a movie I'd like to get my hands on it if not that fine
Read the book. It creates the opportunity to imagine my own characters and surroundings, instead of already having the image of the actors and scenes in my head. It disturbs my own imagination I guess.Though sometimes I watch a movie and didn't realise it was based on a book. In that case I might read the book later. When I do know it's based on a book, I will wait till I read the book if I'm interested in reading it first.
