Sorry about the book that was wrong... damn you all are fast! I have gone through and hopefully verified them all now. If anyone notices any boobos (thanks Clare!) just let me know and I'll fix it right away.
Oryx and Crake and Alas, Baylon are books I plan to read and already own. I can commit to reading but if the book is very long, I read quite slowly so I might be on the two month plan :)
Yeah Pat, I hear you. I would prefer we stick to a short book because it gives more people a chance to read along (in time, and also some people don't care for longer books) but we'll see what happens. We may just need to set the reading period to fit the book we choose.
I just read Lucifer's Hammer for the first time a couple of months ago - and for anyone who hasn't, I can't recommend it strongly enough. Excellent, excellent, book! That said, since I've personally just read it, I vote Oryx and Crake.
Haha... I actually just changed that, since I was thinking last night that there are probably more benefits from being able to see the results than vice versa.
I'd rather not read YA and there seems to be a lot of YA on this list. I vote for Sheri Tepper's "A Gate to Women's Country". I have one of her books on my to be read list and I think although she is a well established sf writer not a lot of people have read her (like me!). And I think the perspective in the book will be interesting for both of the sexes to read.
Thanks Gertie, my faith in you is restored! Also Zac and Mary I agree YA books in general should come with a warning. That said I loved The Book Thiefwhich I have heard was marketed in some countries as a YA book.
Yeah I think about 1/3 of the nominations are young adult books. I don't mind reading them (loved Hunger Games for example) — I guess we'll all have our preferences, including dislikes. I considering providing a "veto" option but didn't know how to do it, and it seemed like that would just be muddying the waters.
Hopefully the final selection will be something that works for people who didn't vote for it.
Oh, I didn't realize you could edit a poll after it's up! Haha, thanks for fixing it. I'll go vote now!
Thank goodness you can Clare, because I am constantly f*ing things up the first time around. I'm always having to edit my posts too. It's definitely useful that Goodreads has an edit option on just about everything!
Thanks Gertie! I like seeing the results because if we get near the end and my choice isn't near the top, I can always change my vote ;)
Yeah, I actually think it would be wise for everyone to reconsider their votes this weekend, in case they want to swing the top few in a different direction. Of course I think we all know what we'll ultimately be reading. :-PI've recorded the current votes so we'll still know what most people voted for (for later lists).
I wasn't going to change my vote...but good thing I went ahead and got it anyway (just in case)..Some other great books there though..(and many not on the list.)
Is the plan for this to be a monthly ongoing thing?
