Undoubtably a jack of all trades.
Perhaps a comic hero, e.g. Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly and Serenity. I must confess though I chose plucky comic relief as a homage to Galaxy Quest, I'm not sure what the difference is between that and "oddball." We're going to need some diplomats too for when people take our jokes the wrong way :D

Hehe, agreed! A lot of oddballs can be funny, like Engineer Fred Kwan in Galaxy Quest or Sergeant Oddball in Kelly's Heroes. Sometimes they're just the weird one or misfit of the group but they're appreciated for being different like Lydia in Beetlejuice. I probably should have more literary references but my mind is now stuck on movies :-D
