I have to say romance. Because it encompasses historical, paranormal, etc. And I always like a love theme to be part of the story even if the book is labeled fiction.

Young Adult, especially dystopian fiction. I guess the closest answer would have been fantasy?

I like mythology but I read a variety of stuff. I enjoy Greek Mythology and other types of mythology. It's fun. Stories....

Horror. I like a good scare if its written well. Stephen King is what started me out on thus genre, and now I read all kinds. I like the kind of horror novel that causes you not to sleep on the night that you've finished reading it. A lot of King's novels have this powerful quality to them. It sets this genre apart from others in a way. However, I am up for all kinds of fiction really. I appreciate well-written works of fiction.

Yeah, sorry, I should have added more genres, but my mind went blank. I love science fiction-fantasy-romance. Hard to pick one genre, you know.

I can't pick just ONE category... but the one that most closely resembles what I like is award winning fiction...the subject doesn't matter too much... it just needs to be beautifully written.

different kinds of realistic-fiction i guess, because it's easier to relate to, and i can get more involved in the story and seem as if i'm actually there. but a close second fave is romance mixed with realistic fiction. 3rd is fantasy

I really can't pick just one. I read a wide range of books from non-fiction to fantasy. I'm partial to sci fi and fantasy as well as a good Jane Austen read. It all boils down to just 'a good story', no matter where or when or whatever universe it takes place.

I like historical novels held in Victorian and Edwardian times. I'm an Anglophile.

I like historical fiction around WWII. I also like multicultural fiction.

I would say I like more contemporary fiction and also literary.

Looking at my booklist, I definitely lean towards the historical, but I also am really into young adult and general fiction.

I voted for mystery because that's my current obsession. But, I read all kinds of books. Non-fiction, fiction, mystery, paranormal romance, satire... you get the idea. But, you asked which genre I read most often and currently, that would be mystery. :)

Had the question been "What genre do like to read the most LATELY?" I probably could have answered. But the truth is, I don't have a favorite genre to read.
Partly because I like books... and I find that any book you read, no matter how appalling, has lessons and some interesting messages to share; partly because I just don't seem to have favorites in anything!

My genre is more a cross genre than any particular genre. I am really into the mystery, but I like there to be supernatural ties in the book. Such as: Odd Thomas, Frankenstein, Watchers, Lightning,and Phantoms all by Dean Koontz, or Dreamcatcher by Stephen King, or The Fourth Realm trilogy (The Traveler, Dark River, etc) by John Twelve Hawks.

My favorite genre is Historic Fiction with a little bit of romance and mystery mixed in. It makes for an exciting and memorable read! But, I'll read anything that keeps me turning those pages!

I picked fantasy but I really read from all genres except Horror. I have a vivid imagination and I would literally have nightmares!

I read mostly mysteries - absolutely love them! But I read romance, historical, some fantasy...always have a book with me.

I like and read from a variety of different genres, but my favorite, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is fantasy.

Fantasy has always seemed to be too general of a term for me. Is Fantasy typically medieval in nature. like the Sword of Shanara and Lord of the Rings trilogy? Or the Terry Goodkind books? Or can it deal with modern characters and settings also? If it can, then can anyone name any examples or reccomendations. I usually like books with a supernatural twist. Dean Koontz has books like this, such as: The Watchers, Phantoms, the Odd Thomas series, Lightning.

I read a wide variety of books, but if I look at my bookshelf it's mostly young adult fantasy. I guess that fits since I'm studying to be a high school teacher... ;)

Not yet, I have read all of Lee Child (Reacher), Robert Parker (still in mourning), Patricia Cornwall, Michael Connolly, Christopher Reich, Kathy Reich, Jeffrey Deaver, John Sandford. My mystery shelf has almost 500 books on the read list!!! I will try Koontz ASAP, thanks for the suggestion.

How is Michael Connolly? I looked up his big detective series but have forgotten the first book. I have heard he is really good. I also have several of the Kathy Reichs books, but have not started to read them yet. Dean Kontz has a lot of supernatural twists. If you do not like this, I would start with The Darkest Evening of the Year or Relentless. These are both recent and very good.

I looked up Michael Connelly's characters for his three series. Which one do you think is the best? Harry Bosch, Mickey Haller, or Jack McEvoy?

I just started reading Black Echo. I must say, this is one of the best detective novels I have read. I am only 100 pages into the book and I already know that I want to read the rest of the Harry Bosch books. I am confused though, I was under the impression that Black Echo was the first Bosch book. But there are repeated references to Bosch's involvement in the famous Dollmaker serial case that made him famous. Is this in another book. I imagine that the Harry Bosch novels are not published chronologically according to the character's life. Like the Jack Ryan novels by Tom Clancy, they must jump around. If this is the case, does anyone know the chronological order (according to the character's life)of the Harry Bosch novels?

The Black Echo was the first. If you put "Harry Bosch" into wikipedia, they list all of his books in order and some other great info that I found very helpful. Let me know what you think.

Memoirs and contemporary fiction.

I enjoy contemporary fiction, and since I am a Middle School teacher I love YA books. It helps me to understand what my kids like and what they think is interesting.

I read a little bit of everything. I am very versatile. I haven't found that one genre that is my must die for type of books.

I read a just about anything except true crime but really enjoy thrillers, fantasy and SF

While I really like science fiction, I will read almost anything printed in English. I don't like really gory or explisted sex books or those that pound you with a very narrow religious viewpoint. Everything else is fair game.
