Don’t bully me. But I don’t like Nesta. I just can’t get over the way she treated Feyre and she rather see their family suffered just because she hated her father.

I felt reluctant to read ACOSF, knowing it’s going to be about her redemption arc. So, for someone who doesn’t like Nesta, should I read it? Or would I just ended up hating reading the entire book?

Read it, but proceed with caution

giuliana I haven’t read acosf yet but what I know about it is basically that you get to know her better and why she acts the way she does and etc so I suggest you give it a try (and I suppose it’ll be important for the next acotar books coming up)
Hope I could help you a little🫶🏼

message 2: by Sabine (new)

Sabine I hated Nesta before Acosf, still hated her after, but really enjoyed the book nonetheless.

message 3: by ⟢ sarah (new)

⟢ sarah I was reluctant to enter nesta’s head and her story but it was the best decision I took regarding this series🤭 so yes but feel free so give up if you don’t like it

Hannah’s Library I couldn't stand her before ACOSF but now she's my favorite character 😭💖

message 5: by thea ⭒ (new)

thea ⭒ I read ACOSF and really liked it but I did feel like SJM skipped over a lot of Nesta and Feyre’s background just to make Nesta more likeable. I don’t really have any strong opinions on Nesta to be completely honest, but I would have enjoyed more of a storyline following the other books.

(Also saw a tiktok that said most people who don’t like Nesta tend to have siblings and that’s why Nesta’s treatment towards her little sister is so annoying to some people. TBF if my older sister just left me to do everything Feyre did I would be pissed too)

message 6: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I only read the first book and honestly, I didn't understand why everyone loves it so much, I just wasn't that impressed.

message 7: by V. (new)

V. (book hangover or book slump?) I hated Nesta going into ACOSF and honestly finished the book hating her more 😅 but I read and stayed for Cassian so proceed with caution!

There are plenty of people who liked Nesta by the end of everything but (respectfully) I'm not one of them 🤪

message 8: by Tayloura (new)

Tayloura I read it and honestly couldn’t separate her actions and how she behaved in this book. SJM was definitely trying to shove a redemption down our throats but if she wanted us to like nesta so badly then she probably shouldn’t have made her an abusive ass in the first place

message 9: by downtown (new)

downtown I didn't like her either. I read the book and it was very entertaining and very very steamy. Loved Cassian and the rest of the further world building. I ended the book still not liking her.

message 10: by Mae (last edited Jul 27, 2023 07:36AM) (new)

Mae Depends on your personality and beliefs. Are you an empathetic person by nature? Are you a person who's less forgiving, or a person who strongly believes people should be held accountable (and sometimes even at arm's length) for their actions no matter their background?

Some people will read Nesta's tale and strongly identify with her personal struggles (because there's a lot of focus on that). Her tale is one of grief, depression, and personal growth, less so of "making it up to Feyre". In fact this story's tagline would be "everyone handles depression differently". On the other hand, some people would think there's no excuse for how she acted. Either way, it's a beautifully written story. You just have to decide how understanding of a person you are lol.

message 11: by Nanna (new)

Nanna Thrane I hated Nesta... i read acotar and did hate her less, i did enjoy the book and the story.. but i still doesnt love her 😅

message 12: by carolina (new)

carolina I love Nesta, I’ve loved her since the start, although I don’t agree with many things she did. I look at ACOSF more as Nesta’s healing journey and not a redemption arc. I don’t believe she needs redemption. With this being said, I think you should read the book. It provides a deeper look into Nesta’s personality, her issues and reasons for being so cold and mean at times. I can’t guarantee you’ll love her, but at least you’ll understand her. Plus, don’t skip out on some fantastic scenes between her and Cassian, they’re a beautiful couple. And, even thought it’s not a plot heavy book, it’s important for the series, very important.

message 13: by lexie (new)

lexie i feel like you’d enjoy the book and it’s story no matter your opinion on Nesta! the grief depiction was also handled pretty darn well if i do say so myself

message 14: by valdreamybooks (new)

valdreamybooks I had your exact same doubt

I couldn't stand Nesta before and neither can I now after ACOSF.
The only reason I went through with it is because i love Cassian with my whole heart and I can never have enough of him.

What I want to say is: it's not a bad book but everything happens in the last 150 pages, the rest is just Nesta hating herself and everyone else plus some cute moments with the Valkyries so it's up to you to decide if you can bear all the ranting and bitching Nesta does... in the end there are some really nice moments none the less.

Hope it helps!

message 15: by Warda (last edited Jul 27, 2023 09:24AM) (new)

Warda As someone who hated Nesta, her book became one of my favourites. Her actions aren’t excused, but I understood her better after learning what she went through and how she views herself.

message 16: by Makaelin Rae (new)

Makaelin Rae i HATED nesta but i still loved acosf. book was still frustrating at times but overall a 5 star read

message 17: by caitlin (last edited Jul 27, 2023 08:34AM) (new)

caitlin i don’t like nesta either, even after acosf. i feel like i’m the only person in the world who doesn’t buy her redemption arc. but the book was still good, even if it literally was just a romance book, and i still enjoyed parts of it! i hope you understand her more after it, i did, but if you happen not to still like her, i’m here with the same unpopular opinion 🫂

message 18: by Luce (new)

Luce I read it because I wanted to follow the story line but I still do not like Nesta, she's one of the worst characters in the series and this book made me dislike Cassian sooooo.... proceed with caution maybe.

Martie’s Shelf Secrets I felt exactly the same and was also hesitant to read it but she does redeem herself (just hang in there the first part because she takes a while to grow on you)

message 20: by Blossom & Gin (new)

Blossom & Gin Go for it, girl... you'll always wonder.

message 21: by Shay (new)

Shay We're on the same boat. I have it languishing on my shelf because she's literally my least favorite character, and I've honestly been on the fence about reading her book because I hate her. You're going to have to take one for the team, and let me know how it fares for you please🙈

message 22: by Goth Gone (last edited Jul 27, 2023 09:53AM) (new)

Goth Gone Grey I enjoyed it for the mental health aspects and gave it 5 stars right after finishing it. Might be a 4 in hindsight, but I liked it better than others in the series.

message 23: by Nainika (new)

Nainika Gupta I promise, it's worth it! I hated Nesta before, but the way it was written gave so much insight into her character that, while I won't excuse her behavior, makes it make so much more sense - also it's just a lot of good writing!

message 24: by Shelby (new)

Shelby I despised Nesta so much that I almost put the book down several times and didn't finish it. To be honest, you probably won't like her much at the beginning - I know I certainly didn't. She doesn't really redeem herself until halfway through, so you'll have to suffer through some frustration before you really start to tolerate her.

message 25: by Rayne (new)

Rayne I haven’t read ACOSF for the same reason! Then I heard Maas ruined some of the other characters to make Nesta look better so I’ve decided not to read it but I’ve heard lots of people switch to liking her after reading her book. I just loved Feyra and Rhysand too much to read a book that makes them look bad for the sake of a character I don’t care for.

message 26: by nana aisha (new)

nana aisha honesty I started reading it but didnt get to even 50% because i just couldnt even imagine her changing ngl

Bookish Meag 🩵 I’m not voting because I couldn’t get into this series, I tried to read but I just couldn’t.

message 28: by ♥Milica♥ (new)

♥Milica♥ Well, I never liked her, and when I read ACOSF I didn't like her any better sadly :/ and the book itself is imho the second worst in the series (to me the worst is ACOFAS), but if you really want to read it you can, it had some enjoyable moments, mostly at the end.

message 29: by Restless Isabelle (last edited Jul 28, 2023 06:44AM) (new)

Restless Isabelle I was never a fan of Nesta so going in to this book I was sceptical plus I was a bit over SJM in general. So that’s my context. For me this book wasn’t enjoyable. I felt that the rest of the cast are thrown under the bus in an attempt to make Nesta more likeable. She’s has trauma from the war but she was a hateful person before that happened.

Add to this a few really questionable scenes around attempted sexual assault and pregnancy and it just felt yucky. I would say don’t bother unless it’s free and you have nothing else to do haha.

You're so right. I didn't think about it at the time, but after I finished the book I thought "I still don't know why she was a jerk to Feyre"—I've just realized that's why! It was brushed over a bit!

message 31: by C_amara_deriee (new)

C_amara_deriee I hated Nesta when I started reading, and my opinion didn't change (I actually found I liked Cassian less in context of Nesta), but I can appreciated the world growth introduced. More magical plotlines, high stakes, politics. If that aspect intrigues you, might be enough to offset the book if you don't like Nesta?

(I'm not continuing with the series tho. Nesta + a lot of brain power to keep up with storylines + so many more sex scenes than in the previous books = nah, I'm good thanks tho)

message 32: by rita (new)

rita Definitely proceed with caution... The book is important to connect with the upcoming books, but I can't really promise you'll end up liking her because her arc wasn't really done in a way that will make EVERYONE relate to her or forget about what she did. But you might enjoy it and you have the bonus of having adorable feysand scenes (and some elriel crumbs, if you're interested).

message 33: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Robison (theinfernalqueen) As a Nesta hater too, I did end up reading it & I can say I enjoyed some parts (mostly Cassian bcuz he’s so great!) BUT I will say it didn’t make me like her. I still found myself a Nesta hater by the end of it lol there were also a few other things I didn’t like about the book & that’s okay! Lol

But I think read it if some part of you is longing to!

message 34: by Reader (last edited Jun 08, 2024 03:49AM) (new)

Reader Nesta was horrible at the start of the series. People who likes her seems to forget that. Her “trauma” is not an excuse for her behavior .Her redemption story in her book is not good enough to make her likeable. So no. I wont be reading ACOSF . I don’t want to waste my time reading about Nesta and getting annoyed by a fictional character. Lol.

message 35: by Jessica (last edited Aug 09, 2024 06:06AM) (new)

Jessica (ThatDamFangirl) I personally feel like reading ACOSF might help you to understand where she's coming from a little bit better. She still makes some bad choices but at the same time I understand why she did the things she did and it feels realistic. Her trauma isn't an excuse for her actions but it is and explanation. She redeems herself well at the end. I've liked Nesta since ACOWAR. You might not like Nesta mlby the time you finish the book but you might understand her better. However, it is the spiciest book in the series and it was a bit too much for me at times.

Blossom & Gin I concur...
