What is the best e-reader for you? Nowadays, I mostly read on my phone or tablet since I only have time for it during my commute to work. Thanks to that my eyes are complaining and I find myself taking a break every couple of hours. This is my first time getting an ebook reader! So, I'd love to hear your suggestions, there are so many to choose from! Thank youuu <3

I am very interested in the results here! I now read as many books on Kindle or as PDF's as I do in hard copy, and am trying to figure out the best, not super-expensive, and not overly big device that would allow me to read Kindle books, PDFs and access the Internet to read borrowed books from archive.org. At present I am using my Samsung Galaxy phone on the go, which has an inconveniently small screen, or on my PC, which ties me to my desk. Suggestions appreciated!

I have a Kindle Paperwhite and a Kindle Oasis, the Oasis is 1000% worth the extra cost over the Paperwhite. Rarely has any lag, downloads and loads books much faster, powers up faster, and the page turning buttons have been game changing
I hate reading on my phone. The lighting on my kindle is so much better on my eyes and also has more of a real book kinda feel
Saw this on my feed, and for me the best, most ergonomic for my hands ebook reader is the kindle oasis. I love the buttons, it allows you to swap right or left handle with no issue, not move fingers to swap pages and the balance, the back ridge of the kindle oasis is just fantastic. Its battery life is not that bad either, not when compared to comparable kobo models with buttons. But there is an important difference in ecosystems. I think search text is much better in amazon system, as is page numbering, but everything else about organizing documents and open formats and all is much better with kobo. Also check how expensive books are for each ecosystem, what programs there are in your country (library lending compatible to which models. In my country kobo plus is much better and half the price of kindle unlimited for example).
But whichever you pick do your eyes a favor and get an eink model. Eink ebook readers (not the kindle fire, no) also are so bad and slow at everything but reading they are fantastically focusing and limiting dispersion. Have fun!
I only have a kindle paperwhite so can’t compare with other models but I love it and it’s a lot better for your eyes than reading on your phone. Additionally you have all your kindle documents on the kindle app on your phone so if you have an idle moment and no access to your kindle there’s an emergency solution. I have some books on Apple Books and I read them on my phone or on the iPad but I much prefer kindle! Unfortunately there’s no way to move books from Apple Books to Kindle 😭😭😭
I guess A phone is fine to-# :0 Yes I prefer a Kindle Fire Tablet.
I love my Kindle Paperwhite. I read outside a lot. Kids sports, my garden, beach, pool. And, it's water resistant (I have on occasion dropped it in the lake). My phone is just not practical for outdoor reading and like you, my eyes tire after long periods. I use my phone when I'm on the go and inside with the Kindle app.
I don't really read e-books, usually, it's a physical copy, but there are times I read it on my Chromebook; I use hoopla 'cause I get it with my public library card.
I have a kindle paperwhite and i love it. It hurts my eyes way less than my phone bc you can turn the brightness all the way down to the point where if you were in the dark you wouldnt be able to see the screen, yet its still really easy to read from. Its also really handy when im reading outside in summer because it doesnt reflect sunlight the way phones do:))
The paperwhite is a great choice. An oasis is better in some ways, sure, but not worth the doubled price in my opinion.

I agree and there their the same size as a normal book.☺
I have onyx boox leaf 7, best decision ever! it has an android system, what make it super easy for me because the only thing I had to do is download to the reader the app of google playbooks, app that I already have in my phone and that I always use to put all the ebooks y download, so whenever I want a new book I downloaded in my phone (faster) and then I just read it in the ereader, as everything is in sync

I've heard that Oasis has poor battery life tho.
Heather wrote: "I hate reading on my phone. The lighting on my kindle is so much better on my eyes and also has more of a real book kinda feel"Yeah, I'm getting sick of using my phone too lol. I'm so late at discovering Kindle. I thought it's just the same as a typical tablet.

I'm already spending most of my days in front of the computer due to work as it is. I'm actually surprised that a lot of readers who voted here are the same as me. I guess many are still using their phones when reading.
>I guess many are still using their phones when reading.I think if one never used a e-ink ebook reader of an ergonomic size, then they got no idea that it is different, both eye and hand/wrist comfort...
Also dedicated ebook readers, being so slow at everything else, can be much more focusing than reading on a phone or tablet.
I am not the person you asked about the oasis being preferrable to the paperwhite. Yes, the oasis has worse, probably battery life (it has more leds also) though how fast it drains (past the first indexing and updating of OS) depends above all on how bright you have the screen on. But new ebook readers do not have as long battery lives as the old (less bright) ebook readers.
The big thing about the oasis with buttons is that the text orientation and button orientation flips when you flip the ebook reader. The oasis is really nice to hold one handed, it has a ridge at the back which allows for grip and then your thumb rests naturally on the top most button (which is default for turning to next page though you can adjust which button goes next and which goes to the previous one). you can just keep swapping hands and whichever thumb of the hand holding the oasis can rest on button and just click the next page when you are reading
With the paperwhite, you move your finger, to touch the screen to move the page forward. You can go to settings and select in which area of the screen the touch should be, in case you are lefthanded and prefer to hold the screen on the left hand, but it is not easy to keep doing it whenever you feel like holding the ebook reader instead with the other hand. Also if you touch screen while reading (for dictionary definitions, or taking notes, or searching words, and I do those a lot) it can be frustrating to do so in some areas of the screen because it interprets it as a touch to move page forward.
I read in bed, or in the sofa, I swap hands a lot, adjust, and I find the oasis a lot more comfortable to read. The oasis also feels better, the ridge and balance and the materials feel nicer, smoother, more premium... It is more expensive, but I read a lot and it is worth it for me.
