If you pick cruel prince bc of the cardan jude romance I genuinely believe will be disappointed. They go from hating each other to making out or whatever with no in between (like even w bluelance Orion had some moments of just like caring abt her a lot and this is very much not like that) and even at the end it doesn’t seem like jude likes him that much 😭😭
But also other ppl love it so what do I know 🤷🏽‍♀️

If it helps, the series is in my sister's top 3 favorite books (along with song of achilles and sm else I forget lol) and my opinion is def in the minority so there's a good chance you'll still love it! and honestly the series itself is really good-- the romance is the only part I found disappointing, esp cuz I went into it expecting it to be a great love story. I think if you go in with tempered expectations you'll really like it :)

I enjoyed The Inheritance Games (DO IT! DO IT!) -- Cruel Prince just didn't do it for me 😬 I tried 2 books in the series and disliked both. Never read Shatter Me series though. It's definitley on my TBR list.
