You need to read Empire of Storms first unless you are doing the tandem read. When I read the series the first time I just read Empire of storms and then Tower of Dawn. Then when I reread I did the tandem read. But Empire of Storms does need to be read first if you don’t do the tandem read :)

Ok so when I read them the first time I read first empire of storm and than tower of Dawn.
I now recommend doing the tandem read just because ToD seemed a little bit boring (don’t hate me pls✨) it’s still good, but I wanted start KoA right after EOS.

I’m just reading the series for the first time and I chose to do a tandem read and was very happy with that choice. I think it gave me the opportunity to love both books equally because I didn’t go from the fast-paced EoS to the slower ToD. It honestly felt like one giant book, rather than two separate, and I was very glad I could just dive right into KoA when I simultaneously finished both. It also created a lot of dramatic irony both ways so that was fun. 🤣

i did a tandem read and i totally recommend it. doing it made reading tower of dawn easier to get through because it can be a struggle since the only thing you’ll be thinking about is kingdom of ash. so definitely recommend doing a tandem read so you can read both books at the same time and the go directly to KoA. it may seem intimidating but it’s so worth it :)))

also just make sure if you do the tandem read, to find the correct guide to go off of so the events will be in order.

Tandem read I found on GoodReads was the best decision I ever made! It would’ve been super tough for me to go back to Tower of Dawn after Empire of Storms. Plus this way the books go by so fast!
