Sam Glad to see someone finally voted for The Narrow Land. I was afraid the author might stop by and feel the pain of being shut out.

It sounds more than a beach read. I look forward to reading it this summer, whether or not it wins the poll. Thanks for the suggestion.

I wasn't going to vote this time because I like the sound of How to Break Article Noun, but it looks very difficult to obtain in Britain so I can't promise to read it. So I'll give you a vote instead.

Sam Please! When I commented, I was not seeking to increase the vote for the book. I was just noting an irony that the book had little notice aside from the Walter Scott historical and drew little interest here. Most of my UK and Irish friends did not review it, nor did my US friends despite its setting on Cape Cod. Sometimes a book just doesn't grab people. The two other candidates are quite deserving. I am going to pass on How to Break an Article Noun since I could find no e-copy, but that I'd the only reason. Grossman is an International Booker winner and I look forward to reading that selection.

I had not heard of Dwyer-Hickey before The Narrow Land even though she has a number of novels to her credit. The style in this novel is quite interesting. She uses a minimalist approach of common words and grammar constructs to very patiently build a novel of atmospheric, psychological, historic, and aesthetic interest. If anyone does happen to read it, please drop a note because I am curious of other's opinions.

I switched my vote late because we were heading for a tie. May still struggle to find the book!

Ang I could only find it on amazon, Hugh, so I went ahead and ordered it from there even though I wouldn't normally. (Amazon gets plenty from me with Kindle purchases.)
