Poll

Which book should be our February group read? If there's a clear runner-up, we'll do that as our March read; otherwise we'll do a follow-up poll with the same books (other than February's winner) for March.

Jaima Tough decision. They all look good.

message 2: by Cyndi (new)

Cyndi King I jotted down all the titles. I will greedily read them ALL but not in February. :)

message 3: by Teri-K (new)

Teri-K Several really good books in this list. :)

message 4: by Annezo (new)

Annezo Awww, more people should vote for Miss Buncle's Book! It's been in my To Be Read pile for quite a while.

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ Annezo wrote: "Awww, more people should vote for Miss Buncle's Book! It's been in my To Be Read pile for quite a while."

It may still happen - The poll's only been up about an hour. :)

If I hadn't already read it in the last couple of years, I would have been tempted to vote for it.

message 6: by Sally (new)

Sally I vote for Venetian Affair, simply because I haven't read it yet. But I would be more than happy with any of the other choices -they're all good reads!!

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ These all look like great books -- I've read Mrs. Mike before as well as Miss Buncle's book, and loved both.

Just a thought: If a book you really want to read isn't in the top 2, feel free to post a comment in our buddy reads thread asking for interested people to join you in a buddy read of it. We're happy to help schedule and set up discussion threads for these smaller buddy reads, if 2 or more people want to read it.

message 8: by Annezo (new)

Annezo Honestly, most of these do look really good. I've already read Miss Pettigrew, Mrs. Mike (decades ago), and High Rising, sadly. All excellent, though.

Bobbie Looks like a great list. I couldn't decide so made my choice by checking to see which are available in our library. But I will go with whatever wins the poll. Rather disappointing that only two of these are available in the library.

That's often the problem with these older books; they're the type that libraries tend to get rid of. The good news is that you can often buy these old books online for very little. Abebooks (my favorite online used bookseller) often has old books for sale for $3.50 or so, including shipping, which is a pretty great deal.

message 11: by Kim (new)

Kim Kaso I read the Miss Buncle books in the recent past, they are fun. I am re-reading MacInnes, just read High Rising in past year or so. Mrs Mike is an old favorite. But I just loved China Court and would love for others to experience it.

message 12: by Kim (new)

Kim Kaso Oh, and Miss Pettigrew is also lovely, re-read it while bedridden. So endearing.

Susan in NC Annezo wrote: "Awww, more people should vote for Miss Buncle's Book! It's been in my To Be Read pile for quite a while."

It is a fun book - worth your time even if the group doesn’t read it.

Yes ma’am - another winner!

message 15: by MomToKippy (new)

MomToKippy High Rising sounds great!

debbicat *made of stardust* Let me see what I may have. Lots of good ones here I think !

Susan in Perthshire I have read Miss Pettigrew before; and I really like Helen MacInnes but haven’t read The Venetian Affair, so opting for that one. However, I will be perfectly happy reading any of them!

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ I can't believe how close this poll is so far!

message 19: by Annezo (new)

Annezo I have an e-reader and am encouraged to find that older books can often be found electronically at n/c or a very low charge.

Michelle Annezo wrote: "Awww, more people should vote for Miss Buncle's Book! It's been in my To Be Read pile for quite a while."

That's the one I voted for!!!

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ I'm starting to think maybe we should just schedule all of these books for group reads. That would take care of our schedule for the next few months. :D

message 22: by Susan in NC (last edited Jan 13, 2018 05:05PM) (new)

Susan in NC I was going to read the “new to me” titles the group didn’t choose, anyway! They all sound great.

debbicat *made of stardust* I don’t have any of them. But I did just vote. :)

That is a simply splendid idea! I am up for that.

I think that's a fantastic idea! I feel like I'd enjoy all of these books.

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ Kavan wrote: "I think that's a fantastic idea! I feel like I'd enjoy all of these books."

I'll discuss it with Carol and see what she thinks.

Voting ends today, but I'm happy to see the results spreading out. Unless something unexpected happens, we've now got a fairly clear winner and 2nd place for our next two group reads.

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ Carol and I have chatted and we're both on board with scheduling all of these books for group reads over the next 5 or 6 months. We may add other books as group or buddy reads as well, like one by Jeffrey Farnol. Stay posted! Meanwhile, please plan on The Venetian Affair in February and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day in March!

message 28: by Elaine (new)

Elaine While researching these titles I became interested in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day so I have already started reading this book. I must say I am totally enjoying it.

Lol, I know it's probably useless now to suggest that you wait for March, but please join us then in the discussion threads for this book! We'd love to see your comments.
