Jason Waltz Does anyone have any Slaine they're willing to part with?

message 2: by Jason (new)

Jason Waltz Ronin I will begin this soon, so looks like I'll be reading "Graphic Novels like Pat Mills's Slaine: The Horned God" regardless :)

Cool that a connection was made!

A.R. I voted above for RPG tie-ins, but I did have a question for anyone who may know (I'll probably do a web search in a minute) how do the Lancer Conan series differ from the rest?

Are they the ones that had content added posthumously (i.e. unfinished work and pastiches)? I know they are the ones that had the Frazetta covers (which helped to keep the character in the public eye).

Looks like it is going that way. I may jump on this with you if I can get a copy in time. I've been wanting to read this for a while. If not I may pick up I, Strahd: The Memoirs of a Vampire by P.N. Elrod.

Thanks for the reply. I thought they were the ones but couldn't remember for sure.

I ended up grabbing this book at the local book store... Though now that I think about it, it's not really a tie-in. As the Witcher series is based on the books and not the other way around, that'd be like saying Conan: The Wanderer is a tie-in to the Conan MMORPG. Though with that said I still want to read it, hahaha.

Dan Excellent! Let's do it then!

So, I'm a little confused. Are we all reading the same book, or just a book in the same category?

message 10: by Dan (new)

Dan Like last selection it's not necessary to read a specific book, so long as it falls within the category. We are a bit of a smaller group with sometimes rather obscure tastes, which can make it hard to track down certain books, so we often enough tend to have broader categories for monthly reads. Though if you do want to join in on the same novel (or series of shorts as I believe The Last Wish is) that others are reading you are more than welcome, and it may add a bit more spice and enjoyment to the conversation for you.

Cool, thanks. I'd read The Last Wish along with you, but I read it about a year ago. I would rather not reread when there are so many other books I want to get around to. I might participate in the conversation, though (assuming I remember it...)

message 12: by Dan (new)

Dan Sounds good to me! What book are you thinking of reading? It looks like "Swords & Six-Shooters" might be the second option too.

message 13: by Rich (new)

Rich Not sure. Possibly Liar's Island, since I have that in the TBR pile already. I might use it as an excuse to read one of the Warhammer books I have floating around, too.

Dan, great reply. Appreciate you participating so much and helping others.

I'll need to make a banner real soon.... will need suggestions for cover art to include!

Dan The only one I know of is The Gunslinger. I've only read it, and its prequel The Little Sisters of Eluria from the Dark Tower series. Both were quite enjoyable, and very different from King's other works, in fact I'd put The Gunslinger right near the top of the pile as a favourite of his novels (just below It at #1).

Thanks S.E.! I'm a big fan of the group, though I've kind of come and gone from time to time, but I tried to chime in when I can.

As for banner suggestions: Maybe Drizz't for R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms series or Roland from The Gunslinger. Both are pretty iconographic characters from the respective two categories we are exploring.

It's a pretty short read, less than 100 pages. It was originally published in a pretty great fantasy anthology Legends, which also features George R.R. Martin's first Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Or Dunk & Egg if you prefer) novella.
