Thanks!

at the risk of making *more* work, wouldn't this poll be more effective if the potential images were displayed in thumbnail-size?

Oops, you are right - sorry about that.
@ Ted and Rand - apologies for the duplicate and yes, I had actually hoped GR would size the images automatically; but it was quite a rigmarole to get them set up - I had to upload all the images to a google album for them to be "hosted" there, and then I had to get the link addresses from the "properties" view one by one and post them into the "choice" options - I had to try and work quite fast, because as you know GR tends to do a horrible "time-out" thing if you take too long with a post, and I would have been very .. er, not too happy if I had to redo everything because of that.
If I get a bit of free time, I will see if I can resize the images manually to get them smaller.
I'll just leave the duplicate in because they might both have been clicked on by now- of course all the votes on it will be counted as if it had been a single choice. :)

Noted, and counted as a vote.
Gregoire wrote: "when i think of "on paths unknown" the image that comes to my mind shows me no human being (no staircases) no other indications at where it goes from or to .... I really love the old stones door up..."
Sure - if you click on it, it will register your vote for that image. :)

Resizing done. :) Sadly it pulled a few of them out of alignment a bit - I'll see if I can make them look better by cropping some off the "long" side of the image.
Boo, pity the icon has to be so small, eh? :(

You did, Magdelanye! You chose one of my personal faves, but one that sadly probably will not make it through - image #2. :) Unfortunately the people standing/walking on the far end of the path are very hard to make out when the image is reduced in size to such a large extent. The image looks great in large format.

Personally, I'd like an image without people: if it's got people in it, the path isn't unknown :-)

They are accidentally the same one, yes. Exactly the same - I accidentally posted the same address twice, and by the time I noticed it, people had already started voting and I was afraid I'd mess up the voting if I removed the duplicate. Which shows you how viewing angle on a screen influences the color depth or the gamma. I have noticed that some screens are worse with that than others.

I put them as close to the size you see on the group home screen as possible. Sadly, yes, one loses a lot when the image goes down to the size that you see on notifications etc. :(

Well, the people on the path is supposed to be us, and the path is supposed to lead into the unknown. (Also, the path could as yet be unknown to us, and that's why we're exploring it. )
I suppose the group should rather have been named "Paths Into The Unknown", and I suppose one could maybe change it at some point, but not at the same time as the icon changes - that would really be confusing. :P

Okay, I've put smaller copies of the images next to each image. Will quickly add in some spaces now as well.

Good point! That's along the lines of what I was thinking when I chose.

Yes, I realize that—that's how I knew that the current one is recognizable at 150px.
Traveller wrote: "They are accidentally the same one, yes. Exactly the same"
Well, I knew it was the same image, but it's still hard to believe they're the same URL!

Noooo! I like "On Paths Unknown", and I suppose "On" does imply there's somebody there, but I just like the image to be people-less. I'm there, but I'm the one who's looking down the path. I suppose the rest of you should be there, too, but I hardly want you all in front of me on this path!

All the images were first put into an album so I would have a safe and stable host; here it is: (not all the images made it to the shortlist)
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1Qi... , and as you can see for yourself, there's only one of those there. I'm not sure how the error came about, but there you have it...
@ Linda: I just cannot get enough of red maples - you can bury me under mounds of red maple leaves...

I have now collected a whole lot of images for you to choose from.
Simply click on the image of your choice. :)
