Francesca Paper books are my favourite but I do enjoy reading some books on my kindle app. Weirdly, I've noticed that I seem to read faster off the screen than off paper. I also prefer listening to memoirs or autobiographies, read by the person who wrote them/who it's about, than reading them. It's nice to hear their voices telling you the stories and I think it helps to get some of the humour and emotions across.

Zaz Francesca, according to scientists, we read faster on paper than on ereaders :)
For me, it totally depends on the book, whatever the format is, sometimes 500p takes me 2 days, others it's months.

message 3: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad Honestly, for me it's equal all around with all 3. I read paper backs in bed, read ebooks on my laptop(and soon my new tablet) and listen to audiobooks while in the car, usually the audiobooks I choose are the longer books(500+ pages)

message 4: by Adam (new)

Adam Smith I love the feel of physically holding a book while you read, but I'm starting phase over to digital in favour of easier storage and transportation.

message 5: by Valerie (last edited Jan 16, 2016 09:58AM) (new)

Valerie I hated the idea of giving up my physical books, but arthritis in my left wrist(book holding hand) and ease of moving from one book to another have sold me on my ebook. I never read so much as I am now. The quality of what I am reading has also improved. Additionally, the ease of traveling without lugging pounds and pounds of books with me adds to that satisfaction. I still read physical books and I am so amused when I tap on the right-side of the page to turn to a new page and nothing happens.

message 6: by Elise (new)

Elise F I move between the three. Audiobooks for longer reads, but occasionally I will get really engrossed, and change to ebook to finish it faster. If it's a classic, or I know I'm going to love it, I'll order a paper copy. Or if it has an absolutely beautiful cover - it needs to be on my shelf!
Majority of reading is on my kindle. It's fast, portable, light and I love being able to click on a word if I don't understand its meaning, or to get Wikipedia info.

I agree with this 100%.

message 8: by Sophie (new)

Sophie I would love to prefer paper books, but I'm totally sold on ebooks. I also love audiobooks for longer books.

I do the same! haha

Zaz I'm totally a book hoarder but not really a careful reader (yeah, I've billions of folded corners on my conscience). Since some years, I'm trying to reduce the amount of books, because I've not enough space and when I move it's terrible. Because of these ebooks are very convenient (saved my reading life!) and I buy paperbacks only for the ones I totally want on my shelves (awesome story, great edition, possibility to share the book). I don't have a good attention span with audio (music or books), so for the moment I can't do audio only.

This is exactly how I do it. I run, so I usually listen to a book then, and in the car. The rest of the time it is either book or ebook.

message 11: by Jody (new)

Jody My preferred format is paper, but I read more ebooks - they're easier to get here (in English), and my Kindle is just so much more convenient to carry around and travel with. I do still love to read a physical book though. I've started being more discerning with the books on my shelf though - the ones I've read, if I don't love them, or if I know I'll never want to read them again, they're out the door!

I've started very recently on audiobooks, but I'm only on my second. I think I'd prefer to stick mostly with autobiographies as audiobooks. I really enjoyed the one that I listened to.

°~Amy~° While I love regular books, I have found that my tablet is easier on sore hands (arthritis), and it's also easier to read at night under the covers with a backlit tablet.

message 13: by Marta (new)

Marta I read mostly paper, since I read a lot from the library, and we have a lot of books on our shelves. However I buy mostly Kindle books nowadays, if I buy one. Love to read on the Kindle, easy and great for vacations.

Never tried an audiobook.

message 14: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I have read all 3 formats. I love to hold the book in my hand, but i also enjoy the kindle, they are great for vacations. Audio books I find I don't pay as much attention, I get distracted.

message 15: by Robyn (new)

Robyn I think this poll needs an "all of the above" option, since many on this group- myself included, enjoy each format equally.

Agreed. They all have their own place. In fact I have several of each. I listen when I'm driving or cleaning, kindle is useful for when I'm on the go or things are slow/taking a break at work, and paper books litter my living room and fill an entire wall in my library... because theres nothing like the feel or smell or general experience of a physical book.

message 17: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Sakaguchi If it's a book that I want one my bookshelf at home, I read a paperback version. Most others I rent from the library on my kindle. If I bought all the books I read, I'd be broke and have buyer's remorse on a few. I listen to audiobooks when I'm walking around the city.

message 18: by Colleen (last edited Jan 31, 2016 02:39PM) (new)

Colleen Scidmore I love love love paper. Just the feel of the books in your hands and looking for books at the library or a book store it just gives me so much happiness! Lol And I love seeing a full bookcase, which I have and then some. I think I had a little bit of a problem with buying books in the past, I just couldn't stop myself. But there's something to be said for ebooks as well. My Kindle is so convenient, easy to carry around, you can have multiple books on it and at your fingertips..sigh, easy to check out books from the library from your own home, and as Amanda said nice to borrow from library sometimes instead of buy books you are not sure you want to own, and easy to read at night when you are ready to go to bed.
Now on to audio. Positives are I love listening to books when I clean up or am doing things around the house, I get to listen to my books and get entertained while doing my dreadful daily chores!! And you can check them out from your local library from home using Overdrive and upload to your phone or other devices. Negatives of audio are that sometimes you don't get the same feeling from an audio then when you read it yourself. And sometimes the narrators, not to sound harsh, suck!
They each have a place in my life but I still prefer paper when it comes down to it.

message 19: by Amber (new)

Amber I definitely prefer real books but use all three sources and like them all. There is nothing better than holding a book and visually seeing the progress of working through a book.

Ebooks are great because I can read them anywhere; breaks at work, anytime I am waiting places, etc.

I listen to audio books while driving, cleaning, or even wasting time playing Candy Crush (my guilty pleasure) :).

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I voted for paper books but really I use all three options all the time!
