Poll

I cringe at the idea of starting Ulysses. I feel like I've been avoiding it my entire adult life. That being said, I'll probably only make it through if I wallow along with a group... So here goes... Fingers crossed. (Of course, I'm not sure if I'm hoping it wins he poll, or hoping it doesn't and I'm off the hook again for awhile.)

I hate hidden result polls. Often my choice of a book is significantly affected by who else has voted for it. If it is voted on by several people who are active posters with interesting or insightful posts, I'll often vote for it even if it wouldn't otherwise be my first preference. But with hidden result polls, no way.

I agree with Everyman. I also dislike the hidden polls for the same reasons - I would rather vote for a book that has votes from readers who have track records of active participation in previous discussions.

I've never voted in a group without hidden results. I've edited the poll to show results now. Let's see how this goes.

I haven't seen a GR group yet with hidden results in polls :). I like to switch my vote before the poll ends for a book that has a chance to win.

Still cannot see who has voted for what, unfortunately. GR seems really glitchy lately, this poll actually showed I voted on a selection when I never did; so FYI, I have not voted.

Also, the link posted in the nominations thread accessing this poll, I assume, takes me to another poll...Who is cooler, "Michael or Otis..." Is there an affiliation to the themed read, or another glitch?

That sounds like a glitch to me. I clicked the link and it brought me here. If you cannot vote, let me know and I will count your vote myself.

Just so everyone knows, Battle Royale is actually an extremely fast read, with very fast action. I'm not sure it's one you'd want to read at a slower pace. (Definitely a GOOD book, with plenty to discuss, so don't be deterred! Just maybe not good for an extremely broken-down format). I know it's 600-ish pages, but I remember flying through it in a weekend.

Yeah Ulysses is one of the harder books for sure. I've tried to read it once and stopped. I'd always hoped to get through it but it's not my ideal read of the year. :)

It would be nice to see who voted for which book, even if it's not revealed until after the poll closes.
