Sophie Good idea to make a poll! I would actually like A-Z folders + fun/games folders (sorry Mods, I know it would be a lot of work for you!).

message 2: by Jody (new)

Jody I'd also like to add a fun/games folder, and definitely want the A-Z.

Brittany (booksandbottles) My vote is all lonesome for keeping things the same lol. I just am worried about losing track of where everyone is in the challenge if we move to the A-Z folders.

message 4: by Sophie (new)

Sophie I understand your worries, but today we don't always see where people are in their challenge when they create the book topics before reading them.

Zaz Mod
I'm joining you Brittany :D
Maybe A-Z will be very good for discussions but alphabet folders are so unappealing, brrrr.
(I'll survive with another way of course, but will throw stones on everybody if there are few discussions)

message 6: by Sophie (new)

Sophie I agree, Zaz, alphabet folders aren't the most appealing, but it is difficult to find another way to organize unique book threads :(

Goodreads need to just create a magical setting where we could keep the organization the same but when you click on a book it takes you to the same discussion. Even if you click from different weeks.

So obviously they need to get on that :p

message 8: by Sophie (new)

Sophie I have an idea, but unfortunately it would give even more work to mods: We use the same organization as this year, but every time somebody creates a new thread for a book, for which a thread already exists, you invite the person to go and discuss it in the previous thread (with a direct link) and you close the thread. Do you think it would work?

Laura Mod
I thought about something similar but I think it would get confusing and there would be a lot of locked threads. I also think it would be a lot of work ;)

message 10: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I say stay the way it is, this way it's easier to find what your looking for.

message 11: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia I use the app and just click on the untead folder at yhe top. It means thst I can see the books and authors first and add to the current discussions. The A to Z folders may get confusing about which week we are in. As a primarily non jumper I like the weemly discussions more.

message 12: by Maple (new)

Maple I'm torn. I like the idea of the A-Z folders because it might encourage great discussions, but I can see it being a nightmare for for up keeping and keeping people engaged all year. It seemed like after a popular book (Week 1:All The Light We Cannot See) has pages of posts people stopped contributing because there was just so much, while at the same time if the same book was used for multiple weeks, not all the topics got the same amount of traffic. With my challenge I picked a lot of uncommon books, so typically it would just be myself or one other person in that topic.

Anastasia > I actually don't like using the unread feature with the way that it is now. For whatever reason, Goodreads doesn't say which folder the book is in so unless someone explicitly says then I can't tell what week they're reading for. With the A-Z people would likely say which week it's for in their comment.

My vision of the progress posts would involve people posting what they're reading that week so everyone could see what the group is reading at that point in time. So it would ideally appeal to jumpers and nonjumpers.

I had never noticed that before. Usually I just piggyback from notifications or when I go into the group I look for specific folders. This changes the way I'm using the group in the app :)

When you open the comment it tells you the folder/topic at the top in the title area.

Unless I'm missing something (which is possible), mine just says the title of the post, who created it, and the group. There isn't way to tell which folder it is in (the week). Maybe it's an iOS thing?
