Paperback is unbeatable. Snuggled up under my blanket with a 4 by 6 book that's 2 inches thick, sniffing the inside.

'Depends on the book' is the closest to 'whatever is available'.

Depends on the book, but paperback, hardcover then ebook/kindle.

Depends when I'm reading. If I'm at the bus station (etc), I can read an ebook on my phone's app, but if I'm at home, I can snuggle with a paperback and a cup of tea. Different circumstances, different formats. I prefer ebooks for their convenience. But I prefer paperbacks when I have some me-time.

Depends on the book: all this format are good for reading a novel. Hardcover, is more suitable if we are speaking about books I want see on my bookshelf.

When I picked up reading again, I love having my tablet at the ready to buy anything I wish to read at a drop of a hat however I will say that there is just something about the feeling of turning a page and the smell of a new book.
I am torn between the two!

Physical copies of books look nice on my shelf, but it's so much easier to find a comfortable spot to read when I don't have to factor in an external light source -- ereaders usually come with their own built-in backlight.

Hardcover, close 2nd paper back, then Ebook. I don't do audiobooks, so I can't vote that and "depends on the book" only applies for me if you include comics/graphic novels, at which case I'd switch hardcover and paperback.

I have to agree with Pippa -- depends on where and when. I have really been enjoying audio books lately as I exercise & do housework and decorate for the holidays (I've come across two very sweet holiday stories). My ereader is super convenient when I am out and about with bits and pieces of time. A hardback is just fine for snuggling on the sofa in front of the tree.

I do have to say, I travel for fairly long periods sometimes, and having a library in your pocket is kind of awesome.

The tech books give me migraines.

I just to like reading in paperback/hardback but since I started with the ebooks I can't stop reading in that form and it's easier and light if you are reading on an ereader compared to an actual book. But I do occasionally miss the reading of an actual book.

Nothing can beat a Hardcover for me.

Voted for "depends on the book". I love reading from new paperbacks, but I got a Kindle a few months ago and I've grown very fond of it, which kind of bugs me, tbh. Whenever I want to read a book but I'm not sure if I will like it enough and/or I don't think that trees deserve to die for this, I get it on my ereader. Yet, I still insist on reading on real paper when it comes to series, thick books (it's nice to be able to see and physically feel how much pages I've read so far) and fantasy (I don't know, man, it has always felt more right to read books from this genre on paper.)

Depends on the Book. I love paperback/hardcover books best but sometimes the books are cheaper on kindle and I can read without a light.

Hardcover for sure, and I'm willing to pay a bit more for it. The prices for hardcovers here in Holland are way to high though..

I so agree about the feel of paperbacks! Finally gave in and bought a Kindle... it doesn't feel as comforting as paper, but sure is convenient... as I discovered one evening when the power was out for hours.

paperback or hardback; absolutely NO kindle. If kindle-only I do without.

I prefer 8X5" paper or larger so that it can stay open on the table on its own as I read it.

Ebooks are the most comfortable read for me,specially since I like to read in the dark,but I still love Paperbacks. It's hella hard to hold a lantern and a book at the same time though,lol.

I don't believe in that article. They got only 50 people,and only 2 of them were experienced Kindle readers. I call bullshit on it.

Yeah,I saw that article and was surprised that they called it a "research". It's basically an ensemble of personal opinions. It looks like the product of a cold war between Amazon vs Libraries.

If it's a 1000 page bookstop of a book or if it's a one off that I'll never read again - Kindle Paperwhite
If I'm driving then my only choice is - Audiobook
If I can't find it in any other format - Paperbook

I love paperbacks but since I received a Kindle for Christmas three years ago all I buy are e books. This is good for me since I love to read huge fantasies.

Eh, paperbacks and hardcovers are tied for me. I slightly prefer paperbacks (when traveling) solely because they're lighter and smaller, but hardcovers just look better on a shelf and they don't fall apart.
I can only listen to audiobooks (or radio plays) if I'm doing something that requires my full physical attention. And while Ebooks are nice, I'm still a print person at heart. Besides, you can't display them on shelves!

Ebooks ebooks always ebooks. I love my Kindle Paperwhite SO SO MUCH, and if you're thinking, "Well then why don't you marry it?!" then you'll be gratified to hear that I'm just waiting for the necessary ordinances to be ratified so that woman and e-reader may marry. I have everything on my Kindle, and if I want to get in some surreptitious Sherlock fanfic fun, I can load those on there, too.

I love holding an actual book in my hands. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Ebooks, but will read paperbacks and hardcover if given as presents.

I actually prefer hardbacks, because they somehow seem easier to hold onto, but I usually buy paperback unless I know for certain the book will be on my bookshelf long term.

While I used to be die-hard "team paper", my long commutes have made ebooks more attractive. My shoulders are certainly happy to have one less thing to carry.

The truth is that it does depend on the book--for instance, I definitely preferred listening to the audiobook of Yes Please! over reading the hardcover. But in general, my preference goes like this: Paperback, Audiobook, Ebook, Hardcover. I hate hardcover books. Give me a trade paperback any day!

I'm actually surprised that so many people chose paperback. I had imagined in this day and age that more people (especially people from goodreads) are finally taking the step to abolishing the book haha. E-readers are everywhere, but it's nice to see that so many are still continuing the traditional path of paper.

I'd say paperback (I have enough of them crowding my shelves to rest my case), but ever since I've bought an e-reader, I favor that one.

Where's the "I don't give a rip, I just love to read" option? That's the one I would vote for.

With translations, referring to footnotes is a pain in e-format. For everything else, though, reading under the sheets, lights-out so I fall asleep better, is so damn convenient.

I love hardcovers but also ebooks ...depends on it. My living room shelves scream for ebooks.

people need to discover the awesomeness of audiobooks. and people who say "it isn't reading" are wrong.

I used to scoff at the idea of eBooks, but now nearly all my reading is done with them. eBook readers have come a long way since the pre-Kindle era.

Downloading an eBook from my public library's website is still one of the coolest free things in my life.

The only time I buy paper books now is if I'm getting some used books on eBay. Used books are dirt cheap and I'm kind of sad at the thought that one day there will no longer be a secondary market (unless someone comes up with a way of selling a "used" eBook).

Ebooks because I can carry them everywhere. Can also read on amazon cloud while in meetings. If the book is thick, it is so difficult to carry. On kindle love the dictionary feature.

Nobody likes audiobooks.

i agree with you i like both harcover and papper back and hardcover do seem to be more expencive

What's important is the content or the story of the book that I'm reading. Paperback is cheaper, I get the most out of my money in buying paperback books, plus it's more handy :)

I like paperback then hardcover books. I don't have a Nook, Kindle, or any other device for ebooks...Santa keeps missing my house...maybe this year!!!

I love that the fact that I can write comments on hard copy books.

E-book is easy to carry everywhere.
