David Merrill I noticed Jonathan Lethen was used instead of Jonathan Lethem. Both are writers, but Lethen is a minor writer who contributed to the Mammoth Book of Fantasy, while Lethem is a much more substantial writer contributing to the evolution of SF with critically acclaimed and award winning novels in the 90's. If people are basing their decision on these links, Lethem is very much misrepresented here.

Here is the correct link:
Jonathan Lethem

Jo Thanks David, i've changed it now in the poll. I will nominate something by Jonathan Lethem in the next round of nominations to be sure he has a proper chance to be read as i've probably managed to exclude him here.

David Merrill I was planning on nominating him for a book next month too. I get the feeling not many people realize how important he has been to the science fiction field since he's become a mainstream literary figure as well. I was very surprised to find myself with the only vote for him. He is also the only writer in the list who started his career in the 90's.

Jo I really don't know him at all, as i've mentioned before I gave up on sci-fi around this time so my knowledge is very limited and looking up his other novels I don't recognise these either

If you nominate something next month by him I will leave it to you as you know his work but if you change your mind I will choose something to nominate anyway.

David Merrill His best known Science Fiction novel is Gun, with Occasional Music. It blended Philip K. Dick, cyberpunk and Chandleresque hard-boiled detective fiction and did it well. It was nominated for a Nebula award.

Amnesia Moon was also quite good. It's a post apocalyptic homage to Philip K. Dick. Lethem wears his PKD influence on his sleeve in these first two novels. I think that's why he got to edit the three PKD Library Of America Omnibus editions and the new version of the Exegesis. He was an obvious choice.

If you like PKD books, you'll likely enjoy these.
