I read both of these less than a year ago so I'll pass on this one.

I've got a copy of SotM handy and I've never read it, so that's my vote, but if TW wins I'll try to find a copy.

Hi Dorcas, feel free to comments while we're reading if you have a moment! Thanks Jaima--I like Trade Winds because I'm looking to add Zanzibar to my Around-the-World reading tour, but I'm excited about both :)

Truly, I would be happy with either. I only picked Trade Wind as a break from the Sepoy Rebellion. :)

LOL, Diane Lynn--I think I've read over a dozen books on India this year, and then there are all those Bollywood films I've been watching, and all those cups of chai :)

I voted for "Trade Wind," which I liked better than "Shadow of the Moon." None of them is near the quality of "The Far Pavilions" in my opinion, but the former book at least has a different setting and different characters that aren't usual in Kaye's novels, whereas "Shadow" is another Raj novel with a plot the likes of which we're familiar with already.

;D
TW is available on PBS--in hardback, even!--so I've used one of my precious credits to order it. I'm good to go with either book. In fact, I think I'll change my vote (sorry, Misfit!) since it would be nice to read about a different country.

Well, seeing as how Trade Wind is my favorite book of all time, and I've read it probably 20+ times since I was 16 years old...

I'm ready for a reread of Trade Wind, I think I'll enjoy it even more the second time around. :) my font isn't too bad either, "whew!"

I have paperback copies of both of these. I voted for TW because it seemed like more of a different plot from Far Pavilions than did SotM.

Felicia wrote: "Tadiana, how can I find you on PBS? I'd be happy to buddy..."I'm not sure how to find someone you know on PBS. I reviewed a few books there 2 or 3 years ago but now I've switched all of my attention to GR. If you look up, say, Nine Coaches Waiting on PBS, you'll find a review from me there under the name Tadiana or Tadiana J.
I do still have 3 credits there so I'm good to go for now, but maybe later! Thanks!
I located you via the member directory search and sent you a friend request. Hit me up for credits anytime!

O.o 105 credits!!! Highest I ever got to was about 15, when one of my kids decided to unload his 39 Clues book set. I've been slowly chipping away at that stockpile ever since. :)

Thanks for voting everyone! It's looking like Trade Winds. Should be really fascinating, with a fair bit of serious historical ground to cover, as well a a good romance to enjoy. I'll keep you all posted and start setting up the folders in September.

Zanzibar in November; Greece in September! (with the Mary Stewart group's upcoming read of This Rough Magic--please join us if you're interested).

October, hmm how does China sound via Madeline Brent's Moontakers Bride?

Ooops! I missed your comments Tadiana and Fareeha. Moontakers Bride sounds really interesting. I never really got into Kaye's mysteries, but those are good ideas, Fareeha.
Or perhaps we should consider Mauritius. My copy of Georges by Alexandre Dumas just arrived from the library and it looks incredibly good. After The Count of Monte Cristo I'm not surprised, but I had trouble restraining myself from dropping everything...:)

Moonraker's Bride has been on my TBR list for a while. I really liked Golden Urchin by the same author. If anyone is really interested in this in October, I'll join.

Reminds me of what I thought was one of Agatha Christie's better mysteries, They Came to Baghdad (though it's been many years since I read that one, so don't hold me to it).
I read M. M. Kaye's Death in Cyprus and Death in Berlin. Not as good as Mary Stewart (I recall the romance in Berlin feeling like a somewhat incomprehensible add on--they hardly speak, and end up engaged!) but both were enjoyable. I should rate th and add to my books.

Yay! It's getting cold here in Boston so I've got my bags packed and my tickets to Zanzibar all ready :))

BTW, I think some of the lower rated reviews spoil the beans, so it might be wise to avoid them.
