Joanna Chaplin I picked the one I haven't read yet.

message 2: by Sandi (new)

Sandi The ebook of Dawn is on sale at B&N, Kobo, and Amazon today for $1.99.

I changed my vote.

Oh, wait. Dawn is the first book in the Lillith's Brood series? I have read all these. Although I lemmed Parable of the Sower because the world was just too grim.

Elizabeth These are all awesome!

message 5: by Liam (new)

Liam Johnstone Never read Octavia E. Butler.

Do you mean that you don't think people should read any of her works? Or that you, personally, have yet to read any of her works?

message 7: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Olson One of my favorite authors, but I think I have read all of them. Which one to re-read...

message 8: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Kindred was by far the best assigned reading I ever had.

message 9: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Fledgling and Dawn sound the best to me. I've never read her so it will be interesting to see which gets the vote

message 10: by Shaina (new)

Shaina I want one of those "I voted" buttons to wear around at work today ;-)

message 11: by Chris (new)

Chris I've read Dawn and Kindred, and while I think it was good and necessary that I read Kindred, I was so torn up by the end of it that there is no way I could convince myself to read it again.

Besides that time travel novels aren't my favorite.

message 12: by Liam (new)

Liam Johnstone Joanna: cursed ambiguity! I meant I'd never read any Octavia Butler.

message 13: by Jeane (new)

Jeane I am so happy that S&L is reading Octavia Butler! Her work is so quintessential to Science Fiction literature

message 14: by Aeryn (new)

Aeryn Sun I gained a lot of respect for Butler's writings with the first book of hers I ever read: Dawn. Truly innovative plot and incredible characters!

message 15: by Derek (new)

Derek I've never read any of her work but reviews seem to be fanboy/girlishly high or really low. Not a lot of middling reviews that I've seen.

The only one of these that sounds worth reading is Dawn, IMO. If else is picked, I've got a pile of alt picks to work through.

Rob I've never read her before. I like this style of poll. Combines what I like about S*L - 0pen me up to new authors, but now I can't choose which one which is a nice problem to have. Also like that you've blocked the poll results from being viewable.

message 17: by Jason (new)

Jason I voted for Dawn, simply because I'm reading it right now (it was the next book in my ever growing pile of books to read).

message 18: by Kenley (new)

Kenley Neufeld What time zone does the voting end in; it's still the 22nd where I'm located but my brain can't see how to vote for a book. I did check the FAQ but didn't see any mention.
