okay, serious discourse, i need to hear different opinions about this. is it just me or more frequentally I struggle while reading modern day books, because of the written dialogue? in many occasions I feel turned off by it, especially in romances. idk but i'm starting to see a pattern: sentences repeated over and over, same structure/words and all, zero imagination; lack of real emotion, phrases constructed only to create one in the reader, but not seeming like real things that a real person would say. and that makes characters indistinguishable from one another, from the same series and different ones.
(tropes fault?)

english is not my first language, so I was linking this problem to that, but I don't think it's exactly because of that anymore (I also feel the same way about Italian books).

so what do y'all think? do you feel the same?

Do audiobooks "count" on Goodreads? I know this can be a polarizing topic, but recently I was told that audiobooks aren't reading, and that they shouldn't count as your "read" books on Goodreads. What do you think? Do you count audiobooks on Goodreads? Just looking for some more opinions. 🤓

Should I change a characters name in my book? He isn’t a super big character until like book three and kinda want to but I also don’t if that makes sense

So his name is currently Caleb Sanderson and he’s a movie star and I was thinking on changing his name to Niall O’Conner
He was just going to be just like white before but if I change his name he’s going to be half Irish and have a Irish accent

i'm saying this now because i don't want ANYONE who i'm friends with on here questioning where i stand. unfriend me right now if you align yourself with trump, with ice, or with any discrimination of any kind. truly, from the bottom of my heart, you disgust me. although i'm not a rep. or a dem., i stand with the rights of ALL of the people of the US. this is not about politics, it's about humanity.

i also don't know how, as a reader, you can read books like the hunger games, divergent, cruel prince, throne of glass, or literally any fantasy/dystopian/sci-fi novel with political aspects and think that trump is on the right side of history. you can't stand with katniss everdeen while also standing with trump. you can't stand with tris prior while also standing with ice. and you can't call yourself a lover of god and people while also aligning yourself with maga beliefs. do better by yourself, do better by the united states, do better by people, and do better by the world by realizing that hate and violence will never prevail. and if you truly stand with those ideals, you aren't just hurting others, you're also hurting yourself. because if you truly, TRULY think that the people with money and power care about you at all? they don't. they don't care that you stood with them, because they will stomp on anyone that it takes to become more wealthy and more powerful.

Hey, everyone!
So, I'm in FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), and with that I'm doing a STAR event, which is a competition they do, and I'm doing specifically the event Public Policy Advocate.
For my project, I am advocating for getting R.A.D. self-defense classes into high schools. Most self-defense classes can cost a LOT of money, like $75 for an hour, which some people can’t afford. So, I want to get them into high schools around me and more to help lower the rates of sexual assault and rape in Utah, which is currently ranked 9th in the nation for those statistics.

With all that though, we have an Instagram account to spread awareness about this topic and release information about it. I was just wondering if you guys could go and follow us. It would be so helpful to help get more notice for what we are doing, and I would be so grateful! It’s called Self-Defense is Safety!
