I would love to be a minor character in that book. I would get to live in London in the 1800's and my sole purpose would be to help Oliver's friend, Dick. I would take care of the little boy until the two friends were reunited.

I can see it now: I wouldn't know how to make the dough without my bread maker; and if by chance I did make the dough successfully, I would burn it in a coal-fueled oven because I would have no idea how to use it.

It would be an adventure for both of us! (less)

My books to relax include: My Not So Perfect Life, and Furiously Happy; while both Valour at Vimy Ridge, and Her Darling Boy are for research purposes for a novel that I am currently working on.

Finally, I have not seen the movie Lion nor The Zookeeper's Wife yet, and both of these look like interesting reads in terms of non-fiction books.

Ruins

A raven sits on top

the crumbling stone

and as I pass, I wonder,

was the hearth beneath?

Built two centuries back, it’s tucked in with pine trees, wild rosebushes, and weeds. Only half of the roof remains, the inside houses dandelions, field mice, ants, and a sapling. Who was there? What did they do? How did it happen the house fell into ruins? When the steps began to creak, and the joints swayed wi

“Laurence turns away and stands at the window, looking out. Behind his silhouette, I see the blinking of lanterns from the villager’s homes. Smoke drifts above their chimneys. The arms of windmills twirl close by, providing electricity to the people of Rumbling Town that powers the streetlights.
“The calmness of an early morning whispers secrets to those who would listen,” Laurence says.
“Wyndham’s words,” Alwyn says with a catch in his voice.”

“I wonder if that’s the reason Mom and Dad are sending me away. I really haven’t behaved very well in the last couple of days. The door-slamming, picture-breaking incident was me at my absolute worst.”
Penelope S. Hawtrey

“My eyes sweep across towards Osgoode. The man’s eyes are moist with grief. I flick my fingertips together; my mouth opens, then closes.

I have no words.”
Penelope S. Hawtrey

“Petronilla and I would climb these stairs together when everyone else had gone to bed, so if one of us slipped, the other one would be able to help. We weren’t to go here because both Wyndham and Constance forbade it.
Forbade? Shaking my head, I wonder how I haven’t messed up more using old-time language at home.
Don’t belong here. Don’t belong there. Don’t belong anywhere”
