I would love to be a minor character in that book. I would get to live in London in the 1800's and my sole purpose would be to help Oliver's friend, Dick. I would take care of the little boy until the two friends were reunited.

I can see it now: I wouldn't know how to make the dough without my bread maker; and if by chance I did make the dough successfully, I would burn it in a coal-fueled oven because I would have no idea how to use it.

It would be an adventure for both of us! (less)

My books to relax include: My Not So Perfect Life, and Furiously Happy; while both Valour at Vimy Ridge, and Her Darling Boy are for research purposes for a novel that I am currently working on.

Finally, I have not seen the movie Lion nor The Zookeeper's Wife yet, and both of these look like interesting reads in terms of non-fiction books.

Superwoman’s Trashed Cape

Personal upheaval is something that happens. It can come as a drizzle of raindrops, or it will come as a deluge of water that will send rivers rising, roads, and highways flooding until homes are submerged in water and are swept away by the current.

The year of 2018 was a year of personal change that came all at once. Some of it was planned: my mother’s move to Ottawa that neither went smoothly...

“I’m sitting upright, against the edge of the dragon’s talon. Enisseny, for no reason, tightens his claws around us, blocking out the wind. Warm in the center of Enisseny’s palm while I dream of Mom and Dad, me and Bob drift off to sleep.”
Penelope S. Hawtrey

“I begin to drop off to sleep once more, but my eyes roll open to the sound of church bells ringing. In these last moments, I have time to consider moments of regrets: things I have said to Laurence; and words I never spoke to Idonea, Petronilla, Constance, Eustace, and Wyndham.
Toly’s words are the perfect ones, I decide, as Laurence wraps me in his arms. I whisper to him, “PLEASE FORGIVE ME.”
Penelope S. Hawtrey

“I inadvertently take a deep breath in and when I exhale, it sounds like a tired huff.
I don’t know what Wyndham’s talking about. I’m not wise and brave. I’m lost, alone, and scared.
I would run away if I could.
I pause.
I guess I have.”
Penelope S. Hawtrey

“My eyebrows instantly slip down, and my tummy hurts. I’ve said the words.
Momma has cancer. Wyndham may be dead. If my life were a glacier, it’s as if part of the iceberg has broken off and fallen into the ocean, making the water rise. A good chunk of my foundation has collapsed.”
Penelope S. Hawtrey

“Sneak peek from my upcoming middle-grade fantasy novel: Dragon in the Mirror: Into Canonsland!

I’ve told Wyndham that Mom and Dad aren't descended from royal blood, and he shouldn’t address them as, "My Lord and Lady". But Wyndham insists.

Wyndham said: "I have known those with royal blood who do not behave in a noble manner. Yet, your father and mother never falter. They have earned their titles.”

“My eyes sweep across towards Osgoode. The man’s eyes are moist with grief. I flick my fingertips together; my mouth opens, then closes.

I have no words.”
