I would love to be a minor character in that book. I would get to live in London in the 1800's and my sole purpose would be to help Oliver's friend, Dick. I would take care of the little boy until the two friends were reunited.

I can see it now: I wouldn't know how to make the dough without my bread maker; and if by chance I did make the dough successfully, I would burn it in a coal-fueled oven because I would have no idea how to use it.

It would be an adventure for both of us! (less)

My books to relax include: My Not So Perfect Life, and Furiously Happy; while both Valour at Vimy Ridge, and Her Darling Boy are for research purposes for a novel that I am currently working on.

Finally, I have not seen the movie Lion nor The Zookeeper's Wife yet, and both of these look like interesting reads in terms of non-fiction books.

Running on Empty

I chop strawberries and drop them into a bowl. I glance at your bed in the corner of the room. I throw yogurt and honey into the round dish, when the memory of your labored breathing comes crashing down.  I gobble up my breakfast as quick as I can. Start to work, uninterrupted, while night changes to day. As the numbers click by on the clock, I know I have time to run, to daydream, and to work some Read more of this blog post »

“Laurence turns away and stands at the window, looking out. Behind his silhouette, I see the blinking of lanterns from the villager’s homes. Smoke drifts above their chimneys. The arms of windmills twirl close by, providing electricity to the people of Rumbling Town that powers the streetlights.
“The calmness of an early morning whispers secrets to those who would listen,” Laurence says.
“Wyndham’s words,” Alwyn says with a catch in his voice.”

“I’m sitting upright, against the edge of the dragon’s talon. Enisseny, for no reason, tightens his claws around us, blocking out the wind. Warm in the center of Enisseny’s palm while I dream of Mom and Dad, me and Bob drift off to sleep.”

“I begin to drop off to sleep once more, but my eyes roll open to the sound of church bells ringing. In these last moments, I have time to consider moments of regrets: things I have said to Laurence; and words I never spoke to Idonea, Petronilla, Constance, Eustace, and Wyndham.
Toly’s words are the perfect ones, I decide, as Laurence wraps me in his arms. I whisper to him, “PLEASE FORGIVE ME.”
Penelope S. Hawtrey

“I inadvertently take a deep breath in and when I exhale, it sounds like a tired huff.
I don’t know what Wyndham’s talking about. I’m not wise and brave. I’m lost, alone, and scared.
I would run away if I could.
I pause.
I guess I have.”
