Paula Harmon was born in north London but her life as a country girl began at eighteen months when the family started moving westwards from small town to village before settling in South Wales when she was eight.

Graduating from Chichester University (Bishop Otter College) with a BA in English Literature and despite a determination not to, she ended up with a career in the civil service.

She wrote prolifically until adult life and children, got in the way. It was not until 2015 that she started writing seriously again.

I write snippets of things; jot down a dream or a bit of dialogue; write something silly or dark. It's just about stretching muscles and after a while the other thing comes back. If I have something which I have to write to a deadline, I just write even if I know it's nonsense until it starts making sense. Sometimes it feels so hard and yet afterwards, I realise there's something I can keep.(less)

Connectedness

I may have mentioned it before, but once I had a vivid dream in which every single person I’d ever known was taking part in a football match while riding bicycles.

My overriding (pardon the pun) subconscious thought was not ‘How can you play football while riding a bicycle?’ but ‘Oh no! How can I have all those people together? They have nothing in common! Some of them wouldn’t agree on anything!’

“The companion didn’t so much have hair as bristles. It looked as if someone had planted iron filings in his scalp to see what would grow and you could have sanded oak with his jaw. From his posture, it appeared that his thighs were too thick with muscle to allow his knees to do anything but wave to each other from a distance. He did not look as if he would know what do with a polite conversation if it was handed to him on a golden platter.
