To the Moon and Back

Gideon was . . . well, not what Toby had been expecting. He had short brown hair and a moustache to rival Tom Selleck.

Benson’s big blue eyes stared up at him, long dark lashes, rosy cheeks, and a cute little button nose. Benson was possibly the cutest baby he’d ever seen.

He had dark hair—short but styled—dark brown eyes, and perfect teeth.

“To the moon and back,” Toby said, reading the decal above Benson’s crib. Gideon gave Benson another kiss on the cheek. “I tell him that every time I put him to bed,” Gideon said. “And turn on this light,” he said, pressing the switch on the small box on the chest of drawers.

Then he had to smile at a horrified little old lady who was just trying to pick a good bunch of celery.

He was third generation Italian Australian, and family was everything.

little Malek was the cutest baby, with so much dark hair and the biggest brown eyes Toby had ever seen.

Eyes undergo considerable growth during the first two years of life, with a second growth spurt occurring around puberty. The length of the eye of a newborn is about 16.5 mm, while that of a full grown adult is about 24 mm. For most people, their eyes reach their full size by age 20 or 21.

It felt like a feverish dream, but he recalled waking a few times and finding himself the big spoon. Then the next time he was the little spoon.
