Multisystem involvement is also responsible for temporary experiences of freedom when a person’s environment changes. A compulsive overeater, for example, will struggle in agony with his addiction to food while in his usual environment. But if he goes on a backpacking trip in the mountains, he may feel quite free of the addiction.
