The primary scriptural themes for this text are the Eden story (Genesis 1:27–3:24), the exodus experience (Exodus 1–15), and Paul’s beautiful portrayal of sin, deliverance, and the life of the Spirit in the Letter to the Romans (5:12–8:39). I encourage you to read these sections of the Bible before beginning the main text of this book and to refer to them periodically as you proceed.
