Mallory and I weren’t good together. We were great. We were a collision of destiny and inevitability. We were fate personified. We were everything. And now, we’re nothing.
A witness to rage so glorious it made my name sound like a curse on her lips when it used to be the most sacred prayer.
but when it’s me and her, she can be this. Vulnerable, trusting me to be her shield. Soft, allowing me to be her stone.
No one knows better than me how complex grief can be. How it manifests itself in different ways, hits you at different times. The way it slithers through all of your old hurts, using them to strengthen its grip on your life.
I stayed up most of the night thinking about it. Wondering what it meant that the same man who had killed me was the only one who could make me feel alive again. Because that’s what this series of stolen moments is. A revival.
Her laughter is one of those sounds that resonates inside of you, like the ringing of a gong. It echoes, going on and on forever until it reaches all the most integral parts of you.
“Logic goes out the window when you’re trying to keep the person you love safe.”
I’ll turn back the sky for her. Rewrite scripture, myth, and fiction. Undo the bindings of history books, tear out their pages and fill them with the story of us.
