“Talk to him like that again and see how it ends for you.”
His thumb rasps across my cheek, and his voice cracks. “Just tell me how to make you happy.”
“Have you not seen the way that man looks at you?”
“Of course, I love her. I’ve always loved her.”
“We made a promise in that truck, remember? I can’t go without you again. Nothing is more important than being here with you.” He palms my knee under the table and inclines his head toward my outfit. “You are stunning, by the way.”
Jasper leans down and whispers in my ear. “If it makes you laugh, I’ll kick his ass while everyone watches.”
“Coming for you, Gervais,” I call as Summer passes me the puck. “Bring it, honey. Show me what you got.”
Because I know he’ll never turn me down. I’ve learned that where Jasper Gervais is concerned, he’ll do absolutely anything to keep me happy.
“Your last name, Sunny. I really don’t like your last name.”
“Sloane Gervais sounds right, don’t you think?” His head quirks, damp hair brushing over his forehead. He looks so boyish, all bashful and nervous.
He laughs and scoops me up into his arms as he reaches full height again, making me squeal. “’Bout fuckin’ time though, eh? You deserved me being early for something after all these years.”
“Got another tattoo for you this morning.” “Jasper . . .” her voice trails off as her fingers brush over the dark ink. “That’s . . .” Her hands tremble as she holds my hand with both of hers so reverently. “Permanent.” “So are we. I’m never going to take this ring off.”
“That when it comes to you, I’m powerless.”
