On the cameras, tall stalks of field grass glistened like bright knives. The remaining foliage that had clung through the long fall was stripped to the earth, bare tree limbs dripping icicles. Only the evergreens remained thickly needled, their waxy snowcapped greenery a sure visual cue that winter had arrived, all at once, in an awful gale.
